I installed a new water pump on my '81 and it leaked through the top bolt hole on the passenger side of the water pump. A few people said that I should use silicon on the bolt and that would stop the leak. I did this and it stopped it, but it has now started again. I toook out the bolt in question and seems as if the heat has melted the silicon as it was all soft and runny. Should I be using a special heat resisting silicon, if there is such a thing?

Suggestions please guys, really want this fixed now, driving be mad. Also it is definatly not the gasket because the leak is the other side of the pump, not where is fixes to the block.

Thanks.

Go to your local parts store and get some goop that is designed for water. Or use teflon tape.

What you need is a non-hardening thread sealer like you use on head bolts - Permatex makes it; all the water pump bolts need it, as all four go into the water jackets.
