I read on the "Brand X" Corvette board that muffler eliminators cause a LOSS of horsepower, not a gain. Can anyone verify (explain) if this is true?

Thanks!

i'd have to disagree whole heartidly. while i don't run what you would call muffler eliminators i don't have mufflers :D instead of running the pipes straight out to the back of the car i took the mufflers off and put turndowns on the end of the Y pipe until i get a new Y pipe but i will go with muffler eliminators. i like the sound!

i noticed the power right away. the car was spinning the tires over on a roll which it never did before. when i did the front Y pipe (eliminating the pre-cats) and a hi flow cat i can spin the tires over at 25 mph so to me the butt dyno says a good bit of HP was gained :D

Top end HP can only increase with Elims, it wont decrease.

Low-end torque, however, may drop just a bit. You may or may not even notice it.
The reason for this 'drop' is because the torque peak has been moved up to a higher rpm, so you 'feel' a loss. There is no actual power lost, its just been moved.

when i did mine i didn't notice any loss. before i couldnt spin a tire over on a slow roll. after the mufflers came off with a good tune up and advanced the timing to 12 degrees it would barely spin'em over at 10 mph. after front Y pipe install and hi flow cat Whooaaaa Momma! at around 25mph she'll spin'em over :D
