Not to sound contentious with y ou ...but, havent you been looking for a very very long time ? What are you looking for in a C3 Corvette that is making it difficult for you to find one ?? What has been your experiences with the ones that youve looked at ? How many do u think youve looked at in person so far ? Are you on a very limited budget ?

Best place to find one, is always within car travelling distance from your home , so you can easily check it out in person. If you want to go nationwide in your search...simply doing a search under :"Used Corvettes for sale" will bring up hundreds of places on the web.

Regards, Dave

Might be worth a trip.

There is always Carlisle, PA in a few weeks. I've never bought a car there but they had about 600 Vettes for sale every year along with the auction.

I have a few limitations, one being, I want a 68/69 convertible.

and i have a max of about $15000 :) I have been a member of these forums since i started saving for the car, which is why I've been looking a long time. The ability to get a loan from family has allways been there hence the looking for such a long time. It keeps me motivated to keep saving.

Ive checked out one car, but as you said, within driving distance; there really aren't that many vettes that I want which are within driving distance from me :( As I am located in the DC area, I also have the limitation of doing shiftwork often on weekends at midnight, which helps to destroy my ability to look for cars while not dropping off due to self-inflicted narcolepsy.

So the internet is really my best source of information for finding vettes :)

Aussie,

I bought from American Sportscar Center just outside of Atlanta. www.buyavette.net Vettes are just about all they sell.

I know it's not local for you (it was over 5 hours for me from SC) but they seem to be honest and helpful people - at least they were with me, and they seem to have a good reputation. I wouldn't recommend them if I wasn't 100% satisfied.

Go to their web site and click on inventory. If you see something you like, you might be able to get a CAC member who lives close to go take a look and drive it for you. They'll put it up on one of their lifts so he can get a look underneath as well.

Right now they only have 3 68-69 convertibles (all over $15000 though), but they always have a bunch of C-3's to look at.

Culprit

Ok people, I am running out of places to look for C3 Corvettes :) so post your links to C3 selling sites on here :)

AussieWithNoVette,

Don't mean to be rude and I'll apologize now (sorry), but maybe you need to adjust your budget a little. Even in Oz, what you are after, not converted to right hand drive of course, will set you back 2 to 3 times your budget in Oz Dollars.
It goes to show that they are increasing in value and good ones are becoming hard to get for little money.
$15000 US is probably more a good budget for a plastic bumper Vette like mine. I have just been through the purchase process with the same budget as yours and the chrome bumper Vettes were out of my budget too.

Let's face it, your choice is a very good one, choice of small or big block, no roof, those chrome bumpers and that long nose, mmm sort of gets the appetite working for another one!

Joes Gasolines here in Oz (South Australia) has a yellow vert for around $37990 (Oz Dollars). It is a matching numbers car with a 327 in her, she also has a luggage rack and side pipes.

I know it is in Oz, but I am trying to show you what they go for here as well, maybe you could add a little more money to your budget, after all, where you are is the best place to buy a Vette with a larger amount of cars to choose from.

Good luck with your purchase,

yeah, but you know as well as I do that Oz is a totally different market for cars than the USA. In just about all respects.

The thing is, I have a year and a half to work on the car, but I need to get the car within the next few months to evade duty on re-entering the country ;)

True, true.

Yeah, true.
Vettes are considered a luxury car here and they are not as common as in the States. The prices are all up because of import duties, shipping and finally compliancing.
But keep in mind that when you take all that stuff out of the example I used, then this car still would have cost around $17000 to $18000 US.

Yep, you want to get away without paying that import duty, cause as you know it is 15% on the whole purchase of the car and shipping cost and as if that wasn't enough, they turn around and slug you with 10% GST on all that. Who is the crooks?

Good choice and good luck with the purchase.

Tony & Tanya

Ausie....

I bought mine at http://www.proteam-corvette.com/.

They have a 24 hour trial if you can not get there (near Toledo, Ohio) you can pick your off line, they will send it to you to use and check out for 24 hours. If you dont like the car, the truck takes it back. Only costs you the freight ($600ish). They always have 150 cars in stock.

Also,, checkout Corvette and Old Chevy Trader.
