I have been in the process of looking for my 1st vette for several months now. I found one that looked very promising. It was an '02 vert red 6spd, HUD and only 12K on it. I asked the dealership how much he was asking and he said....48,500!!!!!! Can you believe that $hit!!!!!! My jaw hit the floor. I told him flat out that was crazy and that he would have a very hard time finding a buyer at that price. His response was that the owner sets them high and comes down. He said the could work a little on the price. I told him they would have to work a lot to sell it. I told him I could get a new one for almost 9k off from Rick Daniels. He told me that anyone that is offering 9K off was full of crap. I asked him if he heard of Maxie or even Kerbeck. He said no. I told him I will come back in September when the car was still on the lot. I check out Kelly and they listed retail at 42K. I figured 38K would have been decent. This guy had about 7 C5's preowned. Most of them I saw there back in March when I started looking. I am starting to think I am never going to find my pride and joy!!!!

There are all crazy!! Go to E-Bay and find a car like I did. 2001 Magnetic Red all options, 6 speed 2300 miles . At least 6000 off crazy dealer prices. They think we are dumb and blind. There is no reason to shop for a used Vette at a dealer. They are cheats from the word go. They make more on used cars than the do on new and the will stick it to you every chance they get. Buy private for the best deal.

Not only that, but they had a 2000 with all the same options as the '02. I test drove that one about a month ago. The liscence plate frame had some chips on it. That car was still there today when i went by. This time the chips were still there, however, it looks like they took a red sharpie marker and filled it in. What a bunch of A-holes. I will scratch that place off my list.

I would buy off of ebay but I cant bring myself to buy a car and drop the money on it with out test driving it first and inspect the crap out it.

I bought my 2000 vert off of ebay and can't be happier.....
it took me around 1 year before I made the plunge, but I was watching all the sales etc. for that whole year..
You get the chance to inspect and drive the car before final purchase and they must "accurately" represent their car or the sale can be voided.

That should apply to any car, including one from a dealer. I bought a car (Porsche) off of eBay, but went to see & drive it first and then had it inspected before purchase. As mentioned above, you can still do that with eBay. People like me are selling cars on eBay to get a wider market than just the local area. Me: I'm selling my '01 Z06 on eBay, but still about 2K under my reserve. :(

What about people who for instance live in NY and see a car they like in Texas? I just cant fly out to texas to test drive a car and turn in down if i dont like it.

You get on an internet digest or use bulleting boards like this. Ask people who live in the area to recommend shops to have the car inspected. Call the shop and arrange an inspection. Call the seller and have them take the car to the shop. You pay for the inspection, obviously. If it's OK, then jump on a plane and pick up the car, drive it home. If you can't afford the vacation days, have the car shipped.

Hang out on some of the Porsche forums sometime - those crazy mofos do that stuff all the time.

If you get a good deal on the car (and why would you go through all this unless you were?) and you don't like it, then you sell it. You may lose a little bit of money, but that could happen with a local car too.

When I sold my Porsche to a guy in Atlanta (I'm in Raleigh, NC) he did all that, and then I delivered the car to him in Atlanta and flew home. It cost me a weekend of travel and a plane ticket, but I got retail for the car, so I was happy. He got a beautiful solid car, so he was happy.

e-bay

Hi

Any vette that is in good condition should sell in the local paper the first day. If it doesn't sell then there has to be a reason. The old saying buyer beware is so true.

When l buy a used car, which is rare, l wash it by hand and then l really can see all of the faults.

The normal vette rattles so much, it is really hard to tell if it's something loose (minor) or a real problem.

used C5

Hi, I have my 1998 coupe for sale in the local paper for 3 1/2 weeks now and I am still waiting for the first call . I live up north in Wisconsin . Meaby all the people with money live on the Coast and in the South of the country . Asking price is $26,500.00
I don't think that it is a bad price and it has some options and aftermarket air intake and MAF sensor .
just my 2 cents
John

I am now proud owner of a 2002 black coupe with Halltech vara ram system , B&B prt exhaust , MAF sensor 6sp with F55 option and HUD
Fun,Fun,Fun

That isn't a bad price, I think. I think it's a little more difficult to sell a used Corvette these days, what with GM giving them away, dealers discounting them, rebates, 0% financing, then the C6 coming out soon. I've had very little response on my Z06.

When the C6 is publically announced/hyped, what do you think a C5 will sell for?

I've been saving for a used vette and I'm VERY CLOSE! Yippie! I'm now wondering if I should hold out a little longer...

What are your thougths?

I've been looking for about a year now off and on. I'm going to wait for the C6 to come out. I think the prices will drop and there will be many nice used C5's on the market I HOPE!
Just My $.02
Gus.....in an "SS" till the right C5 comes along...

To: My1Corvette' If you don't get any response selling your car in a local paper, try Autotrader, or E-Bay. Autotrader has worked for me. Since they are on-line you get national exposure, you get a few calls the first week, then more and more, people are still calling after 5 weeks from a 3 week ad. Good luck

Hi racecar , thanks for the tip did you get the money you wanted for your car . I was considering Ebay but corvettes are going below there value . I understand that people have shipping expenses . thats why I was selling it localy I think that I would try auto trader before Ebay
thanks John

I sold my 94 a few years back from an ad in Autotrader. That was when gas was $2.00 out here in the west, so the price for a big motor car was pretty low. I paid too much for the car because I bought it from a dealer, it only had 18K miles, for a 4 year old car, it was like new. A few years later, it was in great shape, but it lost a lot of value. I always check the blue book (KBB.com) and start my sale price about about $2000-2500 (10%) above wholesale.
If I end up at wholesale plus $1000, I'm OK. It just depends on how fast you want to sell it. If it doesn't sell, I drop the price $500 every 2 weeks until it does.
The bottom line is :v there is always someone out there that wants a Corvette.

It is to bad we do not live closer. I was thinking of selling my 2001 blk/blk coupe for 35,000 it just went over 10,000 miles yesterday.

I have you all beat. When I asked a Chicago area dealer if he had a yellow 2000 Coupe with all the toys (just wanted to test drive, I abhor dealers) he said "No but I have a '98 I can let you have for $48,000." I said I'm assuming that price is extremely negotiable and he replied that all their prices are negotiable. Told him I could buy a new one for that.

It's amazing to me that they don't embarrass themselves in the slightest. Saw him at a show later on and he wondered why I bought privately. Hello in there!!
