This tube carries air from the A.I.R. ("smog") pump to the catalytic converter. The air is injected between the front and rear chambers of the converter causing a chemical reaction which reduces emissions.

oh isnt that cute. that ****s gotta go haha. thanks for the info man.

on a serious note, i plan on removing the cat, and pulling the belt off the A/P so i can just disconnect that pipe right?

Oh, I see. Must be an off-road application.;)

Without the converter the tube in question has no purpose. However, if you're going to remove parts of this system make sure the riser tubes coming out of the tops of the headers are capped off one way or another. You don't want an exhaust leak under the hood.

i wish i had headers.:)

i guess i could just run that pipe into the main exhaust piping, just to make sure that no exhaust leaks. see i dont want to remove the a/p and the hwole system completely, that way if i want to turn the car back to original i can just slap a cat and some stock mufflers on there. but in MA you dont need a cat on 81 vehicles, so i figure while im changin the exhaust a bit i mine as well take the cat out, and boy is that a big cat.
