Locked steering column

Have a 2000 and yesterday got a message that my "steering column locked". It told me to pull the key and try starting again in 10sec. Didn't work. Was curious if anyone else out there has experience this problem and what the cost was.

After posting this problem yesterday I noticed it was already addressed in detail a couple months ago. That's what makes this site so great.... you can always find the answers. Thanks to all.
