I have a weird locking shifter knob on my 82 and was wondering if any of you have ever seen one of these before here is what it looks like sorry no pics its sort of a V shape the bottom is maybe 1/2 inch wider in diameter than the rod it mounts on and the top is maybe 2 1/2 inches in diameter and flat ... now for the locking part the button you would depress to move shifter on mine you have to put a special key in the button itself to unlock it ... this key resembles a key for a lock that you would find on a vending machine ..... is this possibly just a rare option or some dealer installed item my shifter assembly appears to be the original unit
