please forgive my posting this here, but i couldn't find a more appropriate place. anyway, i've found what appears to be the perfect c4 for purchase. however, it's 600+ miles away. does anyone have any experience with making a long distance purchase? this is from a private seller, so should i use a broker? if so, any recommendations? the shipping seems pretty straight forward, it's the finance part of it that concerns me. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I recently purchased my 96 sight unseen. I was lucky enough to have
a friend of a friend look at the car before
I gave an offer. I also ran a carfax on the
vin number. Sent money via a bank wire to the sellers account. Had Vette shipped
here for a resonable cost. All in all it
worked out very well for me. Perhaps I was just lucky but I would do it again.
Good luck to you.

I would try to have someone who lives close to the car take a look at it, maybe someone on here can check it out for you. Start another thread and ask for help. I got my car about 3.5 hours away, and had a friend check it out first, I did go and look at for myself before I bought it.
Good luck.

jeepie offers a good suggestion. I fully expect that if you post the location of the car and ask for a volunteer, you can find someone who will look at the car for you and maybe even take a few digital pictures to send along.

Good luck,

That is a very good suggestion by Jeepie to have someone possibly check the car out for you who might live near by. I bought my car and it was 8 hours away. I couldn't find anyone who lived nearby so I talked with the owner for a long time about the car. He also sent me many digital pictures of the car. I made sure I was pre-aproved from my bank and then mentioned to the owner that I was traveling quite some distance to see the car so if there were any imperfections at all please tell me now before I get all the way there and find them myself. The owner of the car gave me every last detail. When I finally got a look at the car I liked what I saw. Since I was pre-approved from my bank I went ahead and bought it. But I did have the choice to walk away if I didn't like it. I was trying to find a car near me but sometimes you have to make the sacrifice if it's the right car. Good luck.

I'm sure there are some CAC members in the area. You should start up a thread and ask if anyone is willing to take a look. Possibly and dinner bribe would do? You'd have two benefits:

1. You'd have an experienced Corvette person taking a look at the vehicle.

2. It could start you off in the brother/sisterhood of Corvettes by getting to know a Corvette person.

I agree with Jeepie & the others. Edmond's suggestion is very good. Start a thread right on this site and request help from someone on this forum that lives in the area of the Vette. Good Luck!

thanks to everyone who replied to my post. great suggestions!!! it looks like the vette that i was referring to (located in gurnee, il) is sold. however, chances are pretty good that i'll be buying long distance since i'm so picky about the car (black 6 speed 91 or newer for under $14000), so i will be posting a new thread, asking for help. anyway, thanks again to everyone.

Just a note, i purchased a 2000 vert thru vette net, and had a great experience. You could as the owner to take the car to a local chev dealer to be inspected, it will cost you approx. $100. As them for a print out on the vehicals repair/warrantee service request to give you more peace of mind. Good luck!!!
