ahhhh yes finally! installation wasn't too bad but the passenger side was a pita! total time 8 hours with 2 part store runs and helping other people with their projects. i am pretty sure i could of cut it down to 4-5 hours if everything went smooth and i didn't help anyone with their stuff.....lol

i got a sound clip on vid of the exhaust once i get it on the computer i'll get force to host it for me so you guys can hear it!

what brand were they?

vader,

I swear that Mic said they were the TPIS headers. Does my memory serve me well Mic?

Were you having trouble around the starter area? I thought that TPIS made the surest fit headers with the absolute minimal PITA installation?

after i welded on the egr tube fitting onto the TPiS headers :D i could not fit it up thru the bottom and i be damned to fit it from the top......lol so i reused a piece of tube from the air system cause i !air on the car. i did pull the started to see if it would give me more room because i had to pull the dipstick but it would not come out with out damage so i modified the header flange on the head side with a cut out like the original's slid right in. tried to put starter on and couldn't. repulled header and fitted starter had a problem there broke starter selanoid so i had to run to parts store and buy a new selanoid sp? fit it starter back in and then header slid right in with some massaging :)

i rank this project for the average Joe 5 out of 10. pretty basic and straight forward as long as you can get the car off the ground high enough to work the headers up. i have a lift at work so it makes it more easy :)

Mic

Edmond, I think in 88 Gm installed a smaller starter. On your car you may not have the Starter problems.

When I installed my Hooker headers I don't remember if I installed them in from the top or bottom, It has been a wwhile.

Mad-Mic,
What exhaust do you have connected behind the headers?

Jeff,

I don't think Mic is running pre-cats and doesn't run mufflers either.

I'm glad to hear that I won't encounter problems like that. When I replaced my starter earlier this year, it was a PITA to slip it between the lines underneath the vehicle.

Jeff,

i got the Y pipe with it. i am guessing it came from TPiS. i got the headers and Y pipe from wheelsup over on CF. he lives about 30 miles from me. he's trying to sell me his motor out of his 90 that ran 11.0's-11.2's with a M6 then he swapped the IRS out for a solid axle setup and went 10.90's with it....hehe wish i had the money but i'm tight on cash for a few months because of my trip to europe next month but once i get back i'm gonna start looking from some D113's that i can rework to flow that cam you sold me :)

Edmund is right gutted cat getting ready to get fitted with straight pipe for now but i'm going with the mid america true dual setup in the near future. our shop welder is going to fab it up to the headers ;)

my LT1 intake got here today i got from MoonUnit :D i got almost all the parts for a mid 11's setup just need heads and get them reworked :D

Edmund i fitted the header in while the starter was in. just wanted to clarify that. it is tight though.

Mic, I hope you fired it up before you capped it with the rest of the exhaust system. I just LOVE open headers! :J

Mic,

When are you gonna do the heads and cam? You've got everything else in place. I think you're gonna be running 10's on motor the way you're going... :)

Ken,

I admit that I've never heard that before. What can it be compared to? How does it sound?

no i'm thinking mid 11's and high 10's on a 150 shot. if i go high 11's i'd be happy and low 11's on the squeeze i'd be happy :D

Ken. shooo did ;) it's basically open headers now. i definetly need to get some mufflers. i'm thinking some bullet mufflers into some tips with the mid america true duel kit for stainless 299 and reg for 249.

go to your local dragstrip and listen to a small block chevy built on race gas. ours sound nice and crisp with lightning throttle response. i'm gonna post the sound clip tonight hopefully

Congrats Mic :beer I'm happy to know you got the intake on time, finaly got my computer back up if you didn't pick up my message from the other e-mail addy :upthumbs

sent you an email at the old addy i reckon :) thanks man it's gonna get fun in the fall. 4-bolt main, forged pistons, reworked heads, LT1 intake, long tube headers, 52 mm TB, 3000 stall with as many restalls i need and he is local to me, chipped by Jeff, and a 150 shot of juice. :_rock

Mic,

Why not just buy an LT1 style cat-back and use that in stead of Mid AM dual exhaust. I am using the Borla 2-3/4" Challenge exhaust from a ZR1 off of my headers.. with no cats as well.

I hope Rich is reading this thread because you guys are headed for a showdown! :L

Jeff will i get a code for !air? what should i do about the EGR? cap it?

well i'm thinking the duals are more free flowing and the Y single Y setup. put some electric dumps after the header collector and that would be music to my ears. :D

BTW the stock exhaust manifolds had a 1 1/4" opening. the sound is more full and very crisp. you can hear the stock cam lope alittle. i am going to muffle the car though. it's just getting too loud. don't mind it at the track though :D

Mic, congratulations on those headers. They're a great mod on our L98s. Makes a real nice difference. How did you like the torque in the mid-RPMs?

Well the LT1 is very close to dual. the resonaotr is dual in/out. Liek I said, I have a Borla challenge system 2-3/4" dual pipes. I have NO AIR or EGR. When I removed the AIR/EGR stuff, I drove without changing the PROM and never got any codes. But even with the LT1 catback, you could leave all that stuff connected.
