Anyone running long tube headers ? If so do you hsve any isues with the collectors dragging over stuff.I would like to put a set on but I already have place's where I will drag because of the ground effects from the Greenwood pieces under the doors.

Merry Christmass !!!!!

My friend has instaled(on a 94 LT1) a set of TPIS ceramic coated (a must so no painting or rust) and he did lose a inch or two with the collector being so much larger. But if you do not have a steep driveway no big deal. Hutch and some of the other senior members have tried short tube headers( changed to long tubes) and only gained three HP or so but the long tubes with Random Tech cats really will gain about 7 to 10 HP depending what other mods you have done but this was on a 96 LT4 so if you have the L98 I am not sure about how much more power you will gain. But in either model Long Tubes make the best power and torque increase. This is my next mod on my LT4 and I will post pictures during the install. Good luck and have Fun.

Merry Christmas

I have been running tpis long tube headers for 6 years and have not drug them once. The front air dam drags a lot but never a problem with the headers.

The TPIS long tubes seem to be the consensus for best headers for the C4 out there. That's why I'm going to get them done over the winter. :D

They are easy to install but here is a tip that will save you money in the long run. Buy a set of those ceramic boots from Summit or Jeg's and put them on 5 and 6 plugs. They are kinda expensive but a lot cheaper than replacing the plug wires every few thousand miles.
I have read where people had to beat dents in the Hooker headers to change plugs. you will not have to do that with the TPIS but if you don't use the ceramic plug boots you will cook the wires. The cheaper boots do not work but please don't ask me how I know this. :mad

i run the accell 9000+ wires with the accell cap/rotor/supercoil combo. lasted 10k in miles so far with no problems. just keep them well routed.

here is my install...

I run Exotic Muscle Long Tubes and they are not any lower than the stock exhaust was. My exhuast fits above the X-frame. I would buy the ceramic coated EM LTs again.

I have heard good things about Stainless works header too, they are supposed to be another high quality C4 header choice.

Black Bart, why do you need ceramic plug boots? Are your headers that tight to the plugs? My EMs have plenty of clearance, and I am using the stock wire looms on my daily driver with no-drama.

Mike my headers have as much clearance as any that I have seen for a vette. I think it is all a matter of heat generated by the power output.
My headers are ceramic coated and I have them wrapped with thermo-tech header wrap plus a tried the cheaper boots that were rated at 1200 degrees and ruined a set of Moroso blue max wires in 88 miles. I installed a set of MSD superconductor wires and got a year out of them before they were burned up. I installed another set of superconductor wires with the 2300 degree ceranic boots and now have two years on them. I plan on checking them this winter but I think they are OK.
I guess I need to trade these lead sole shoes for a pair of air jordans

I tried the cheaper asbestos type wire protectors and they lasted two days. Ceramics are the way to go. More $$$ but they do the job.

OK, I agree that boost will increase EGT,, looks like you got sick of having an anemic L98 and performed a little work :L
