long winter

Well, phooy. I ordered my new C6 in Sept. and it arrived yesterday and I'm supposed to pick it up tomorrow.

We've got 14" of snow on the ground, wet salty streets and the current temp is 17 above zero. No way I'm driving this thing on these salty streets. I'm having it put on a flat bed and it's going directly into storage until spring.
It's gunna be a long, long cold winter.

I'll have to ask my wife again: Why do we live in Illinois?

Think of it this way 105 more days till april 1st,thats not bad .But from april 1st it's only 150 days till the 07's start to be delivered. Get my cold hard drift.? Value /depreciation is 5-7000 dollars per year.So the car costs you 40-50 dollars per day during the 150 day period add in insurance & registation and it makes ya start to think.When i bought my 03 i said i 'm going to enjoy mine all year and not worry about miles.Your putting it in storage for say $100 per month and thats just what it costs to store it in Orlando very near the airport.Grab a long week end once a month skip down and put the miles on it all year long.Remember a Vett in storage in cold Illinois can be bad for the cars spirit.Your vett is a living breathing thing that has feelings.

You make some valid points, vett boy. The depreciation doesn't bother me as I intend to keep this car 10 years. This is my son's college graduation present. He is 12 now. If I put 3 thousand miles a year on it, he'll get a 10yr old Vette with 30k miles on it, and I'll be retired. This summer we will autocross the car, and show it at shows. He'll be involved as my pit crew/detailer. And luckily, the car is stored in the heated warehouse I have for my business. While we all are in different stages of life, we share the common bond of enthusiasm for Corvettes. Thanks for reminding me that my car has feelings. I intend to be kind. The car's spirit will be fine.

Silverman don't feel too bad, there are alot of us storing our Vettes.
Just think of all the money you save on gas, car washing, polishes,
and etc., and it never gets dirty! I was going to order an '06, but
looked at the time line and felt with two trade-ins and possible salt
exposure buying one off the lot in October was a better way to go.
I still get to visit it everyday. Big red bow on it for Christmas is next!

I'd Change One Thing

If the roads are as bad as you say, and you're spending that kind of money, don't flatbed it, it'll get just as salty, use an enclosed trailer and it'll get to the warehouse as clean as it left.

I took delivery yesterday (Dec 19) at 9am. It was 5 degrees. The roads were dry. I got to drive it exactly one mile from the dealer to my storage. It arrived spic and span...even the competition grey wheels were clean as a whistle. Today I put my battery tender on it and covered it with a cover from a Porsche 928 from about 10 years ago. The cover fit wasn't great but it does protect the car. Maybe Santa will bring me a custom vette cover for Chistmas. Anyone have experience with the red vette cover offered by Chevrolet? Any tips on the best cover for indoor heated storage, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! Also, to the other forum members who commented on my plight. While the car is underwraps for storage, I amuse myself reading the owners manual.

I live in central Illinois and we've been locked in a deep freeze for several weeks now. Highly unusual this early in the Winter. I think today's high was 20 degrees, although it's forcast to be in the 40's over the holiday. That means the snow will start melting during the days making the roads wet... which will then freeze in the evening, insuring the local body shops will have plenty of work.

Just talked to my scuba buddy, and we are out of here 2nd week of Jan.
Going diving in Mexico for a week. Maybe even thaw out.

Didn't realize that parts of Illinois uses pure salt or a least they did in 2000. Went to Chicago to buy a used crane and there was nothing left of the sucker except rust. Heading for the Keys in Jan to dive with my youngest son,i hate cold water !!Have a good time and glad the car is home.
