hey there ya'll..this is my first post, so bare with me please...i don't think i can put this on the forsale/wanted board b/c i'm a new member..hope this doesn't get me into trouble because i like the website and i'd like to remain a member...anyways...i am looking for an old c-3 corvette, i like the 69-72's the best, but i'll take any year....t-top, coupe, convertible..i like em all...i'd like it to be running, but doesn't have to be restored or anything fancy like that...i can do work to it once i get it...i'd prefer a stick, but i could deal with an automatic, mileage pretty much doesn't matter either ...the most important thing is price...gotta be around 4 grand or under, cuz i'm planning on doing a lot of work to it once i get it...i know it'll be hard to find one but it's ok..i'm in charlotte, north carolina, but location isn't a huge issue either..i have ways of getting it pretty much wherever it is...if yall know of anything and could help me out, i'd really appreciate it..i really wanna get rid of my old jeep and get an old corvette..thanks so much.

Welcome to the CAC Bryan !! :w

With a $4K budget, the "Bumper Cars" (68-72) you will find are gonna be a ways out of reach, even it it's a project car. I would say that the best thing to do is to get your self up into the $6-7K range and you will have a good chance of finding something in the 74-80 model years. Even there, you'll find that there will be, most probably, a bit of work to be done even in that price range. If you have the ability to do engine work and the like, I'd put the condition of the body and paint high on the priority list. The potential cost of body work and a decent paint job can set you back a lot more than the engine or trans ... well, depending on how exotic you might want to go. If it's going to be your main means of transportation, then the drivetrain would take a front seat to the cosmetics. Either way, good luck in your search, and this is definitely the right place to hang around to shoot your questions out to. Now that the big Cruise-Fest in Auburn is over, I'd expect you'll get some more opinions.

thanks for the help man..unfortunately..going over 6k is not feasible right now...i'm only selling my old jeep to get a corvette..and i'll get 3 or 4k for that, if i'm lucky...anyways...i've seen em goin on ebay and on online websites for the right price range..just in random locations or at bad times..hopefully..it'll all happen at t he right time and place for me..in the meantime, if anyone sees one that's cheap..please email me...stikly@aol.com..thanks guys.

hi guy, just so you know what your looking into, i am restoring a 1975 stingray that i bought for 4,500,just this week the cost crept over 17,000$ and it still has not seen the road.and there's still money to be spent.the parts for these cars run about double what a part for another car sells for so don't be upset when you meet ben at the parts store, you know ben dover.mike

You should be able to find a 74-81 project car for the money you are talking. I purchased one for under $4k, but I was willing to do some work. The car is running, and looks good from 20 feet, but needs paint, interior, needed brakes, and a new carb, and a good tune up. It's now a rolling project car/driver. Your best bet is to check your local papers, and asking around, you'd be surprised what you can come up with when you start sending out some feelers to the car crowd. Ebay is kind of a crap shoot. There can be some good deals, but I'm a bit nervous about purchasing a car off of pictures, but if the price is right...

Good luck!:beer

thanks you guys...gary, i think i'm lookin to do something like you did..buy one for cheap..work on it while i can drive it...thanks for the encouragement!! rock on.
