Anyone happen to have a hood laying around that has been scooped, blower or carb hole, damaged but repairable, ect.? I have a project I've been thinking about for some time but I'd never cut up a nice hood.

When I bought my '57 it had a hood with a scoop. I replaced it with an aftermarket regular hood. Make me a fair offer.

Hi MRDISTATTY,

Welcome to the Corvette Action Center. Thanks for the offer on your hood but it won't fit the '58-'62 hood opening. The '57 back to '53 hood opening is slightly different.

Tom I have a fello coming up to my house tonight (thursday night) to look at some of my 62 parts he said he has some hoods and truck lids .I will get prices and then try and get some photos for you.

Thanks. I'm not looking for a nice hood. I'm thinking of building a Sebring style hood and don't want to cut up anything useful on a restoration.

Tom

Thanks. I learned something (they all look alike to the untrained eye).

I have a hood that meets your requirements but it is located in Northern CA (so am I !) If interested, I can take some digital photos and e-mail them to you.

Hi Joseph,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Things have been nuts this year so far.

What do you have? I have a couple ideas for a hood I would like to do. One is a Sebring style vent like the factory racers had. Another is a louvered hood. I saw a vintage racer at Mid Ohio a few yreas ago with a formed and louvered aluminum panel bonded in. Once painted it looked great and had some people scratching their heads.

If you have time to snap a couple digitals I'd sure take a look. No hurry.

Thanks,
Tom

No problem. Just another project I didn't heed anyhow. :L

Pardon my ignorance, but what does a Sebring style vent look like. I'm working on a 59 that is going to need some sort of hood scoop. I have a hood that looks sort of like the C3 L88 hood but I don't particularly like the way it looks on the car.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner but I have a disc with very detailed pictures around here someplace if I could only find it. Here is a substitute picture I found of a 1960 LeMans car. I think you can get the idea.

Tom:
Thanks for the picture. Those vents look like they was designed to let hot air out of the engine compartment rather than let cool air into the carb. I guess the baffle in front was to create a low pressure area over the louvers. What I need is a real scoop to clear the carb.
Charles

There's one on e bay right now. current bid is 104.00. Looks like what you need? Sorry, no item number, but if you look under corvette 1960 you will find it. G.

That baffle in front would also throw almost all rain up over the windshield at speed.
