...or someone to convince me that I don't need one.

I need to replace the window spring and door latch mechanism in my passenger-side door. I understand that it is possible to get them in and out of there (obviously, since the was assembled), but it looks like it would be a lot more trouble than it's worth.

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic who will know what he's doing in there?

Or, can someone convince me that there is an easy way to get a new spring into there?

Joe

Thanks. I gave 'em a call, and hopefully I'll be able to get this straightened out. It's not much fun not being able to use the passenger-side door. Being able to share the experience is more enjoyable.

YOUR A JOKE!

Offshore,

Not sure what your particular sense of humor is...but these kind of comments don't sound very professional.

Clean it up...or find another place to hang out.

MaineShark - Good to see another Mainer crazy enough to drive a Vette! Not sure where you are located within the State but "Corvettes North" located in Waterville has been doing Vettes for a long, long time. I am not sure if they wrench on their own cars anymore but I would bet they would know the mechanics in your area who do.

If you find somebody else that specializes in Vettes, I would love to know who they are. Seeing that I was stupid enough to do all the needed brake work already, I am not sure why I need help...as I can't believe much on this car could be harder to fix!!!...but I would still like to know.

Best of luck!;) ;)

'Scuse me.....what exactly is your problem? I've read through some of the threads you've posted in and you clearly have some kind of disagreement with MaineShark.

Whatever it is - I don't care about it, but I want it taken OFF these forums. If you have a beef with someone here, take it to email.

Do you have any contact information and general information on Corvettes North? I'd like to add them to our Portal section if possible.

76L82: I'm about half an hour south of Portland.

The Sharks do seem fewer up here. Although my local Napa assures me that there are at least half a dozen other C3's in the area (they keep a database of customer's cars, so they can keep parts on hand that they think might be needed). I guess most are garage-kept, since I very rarely see another on the road.

I actually called Corvette's North back when I was looking for the car, but they didn't have anything at the time that fit what I was looking for. I don't know why I didn't think of calling them. But I'll see how John's Corvette is - the price he quoted was pretty reasonable. Plus, I been up to Laconia in years, so it should be a fun trip.

re:

You guys should come down to MDI(Mt. Desert Island) there are like 6-7 daily driven c3's not including mine that I can think of off the top of my head. The roads/sights are great too.

I just put 250 miles on the Shark yesterday, because I felt like taking a drive. I'm sure I'll make it up to MDI sometime, even if I don't plan it (I usually just start out in some direction, and go wherever the road takes me).

Interesting factoid: gas is $1.08/gal in Wakefield, NH :)

Well, I went by John's Corvette Service earlier today (details on trip here). Everyone was very friendly and professional. He got my door lock problem fixed nicely, but not the window. After he looked over the regulator, he told me that he could put a new spring in there if I wanted, but it would just strip the old gears (I was thinking that might be the case, which is one of the big reasons why I wanted an expert opinion). I always like it when people show more concern for doing things right, than for the bottom line. Plus, he noticed a problem with my vacuum advance and fixed it. I do think I can feel the difference, and I'm going to check the gas mileage and see if it improves.

Joe,

Thanks for letting us know your experience with John's Corvette Service.

When I was living in New Hampshire, I always heard good things about him and his business, but I never had a reason to bring my car up to him for service so I didn't have any personal experiences with him.

Sounds like your experience is right in line with all the others I heard and that's good to hear. :)

Rob - Sorry I am just getting back to you...

Corvette's North primarily deals in the sales of Corvette's... .mostly late models but also usually has 1 or 2 really nice C3 and C4's on hand at any given time. I believe they currently have a very, very nice 81 red one with all the goodies. They also deal with other speciality vehicles...it is common to see a new T-Bird, WS6 Firebird, and a Mustang Cobra on the lot at any given time. I believe they also locate Vette's for people..I am pretty sure they have a couple of nice C2's in storage looking for a home.

Sounds like we have a good and honest Vette guy in John's Corvette.

Maybe we should do something in Maine this Summer? I have a ratty old Vette but I think she would make a trip somewhere in the State. Do you guys know of an active Corvette Club up here in Maine? A nice drive to the Portland Headlight would be kind of fun with a bunch of C3's. Hope to see you guys on the road...I'll be the guy in the ratty old white L-82 around the Central Maine area.

Sounds like a good idea, although I think Portland in the summer might not be the best place to drive, with all the traffic. Need some nice open roads :)
