I was wonder what others experiences were with new paint jobs. The previous owner of my vette got a cheap macco job done just before he sold it to me to cover the "scratches". Knuckle head. And in my zest to buy one, i accepted it, the price and condition were right, and i have been driving it daily for the past 1.5 years. Double knuckle head on me.

I had it detailed at a shop for $100 and it looked AWESOME!!!! But now, a year later it is looking sadder and alittle faded. How many times can you detail your car? The swirl marks are showing and the heavy snow we had this year in NJ didnt help my paint.
I was looking at about once a year or so, spring time most likely to get it detailed.

I have been seriously considering a new (non-macco) paint job since i have gotten the car. A REAL ONE !!!! What would be best thing for me to get in terms of paint finish? I want it to look great obviously, but dont need the "show car" quality and 5 clear coats or the high maintenance that those cars have. Just a simple wash on weekends and nice wax every other month or so is the best I can do.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I would think you could get it detailed as many times as you want until the paint starts getting thin on the edges. The paint job isnt going to be cheap and the more you can do the cheaper it will be on ya.With the new paint job ,youll also have to buy new emblems, light lenses and weatherstrip. So add that to your paint job price, because Im sure maaco didnt tape them out very good. For the kinda paint job you want look for someone that can paint it with out buffing it.Ive always thought that buffing it reduces the life span of the paint job.:beer
