Question: Looking for opinion on this prototype gas lid

Nice work building it, but ... After seeing the regular gas cap inside of it that just ruined the image and made me think this belongs on a Diesel truck or an import. I mean after all whats the difference between that and the gas lid thats on the car? They both have the same function and cosmetic race looking stuff doesn't belong on a corvette.

Just my opinion

I like it, Tom. I will admit I too was kind of surprised to see the filler cap inside. All in all, it looks like a beautiful piece. If I had a C3, I would definately consider it.

I'm OLD and old school, not a purest, just old school :D with that said, I don't care for it on a stock type car, esp a Corvette. I'd rather see something that compliments the body lines and doesn't stand out so much... jmho

I like the looks of it but I have to agree with topless82. Rather than having it connect to the body, basically just replacing the body flip up lid, it should be connected directly to the tank so that when open it gives you a huge opening into the tank to dump fuel just like the original Motion cars. That way it would a performance element to the car rather than just decoration.

Hi Tom73

I had two problems mounting to the tank.

1. When you pump at the station the gas nozzle needs to trip it's sensor to begin fueling so you need that small hole. Back in the old day's there was no such sensors.
I had not thought about that but it is an issue in only some areas. We don't have the vapor recovery system here. Wonder what those with pre-75 cars do? On my '73 it has a neck of about 4-5 inches. No way the vapor recovery would work there.

all you have to do on a nozzle is pull back that rubber neck and it will fill anything ... try it on a gas can and you'll see what I mean. Now as for connecting it staright to the gas tank a problem I for see is when topped off gas will naturally fill the vapor recovery lines.

I don't look down on it, it's just not appealing to me is all. Even if it were functional it just looks out of place is all, but it's your car and if you like it, thats all that matters. I've come up with far fetched ideas for mine to and there are more to come you can be sure of that.

Aside from a L-88 hood though I want to leave my body stock looking because all it takes is one guy racing my crossfire on foot to pass me and laugh at a fake filler cap LOL. just kidding of course.

But do what you want to the car! it's yours and what you like on it go for it it's about your taste not others.

I think it's a real nice job and it looks good if that's the "look" you're after. What's great about it is if you like it there are no mods to put it on. If you sell the car or change your mind take it off. It's not something the car is stuck with.

"2. We didn't want to combine the gas tank and deck lid together at the mounting hole
possible stress cracks in the deck lid if the fuel tank was full, too much "flexing". That is why I was asking a opinion on the look! I know it's not the real deal."

That's as good a reason as any not to make it "real".

It looks very nicely done and I like it on your car.

I think it looks pretty cool, but out of place (just because i'm not used to seeing it on corvettes).

I think it would be cool if it was mounted to the tank and you didn't have to usncrew the cap.

Very nice!

Very nice, well thought out product and it looks good on your car.

I keep my 69 looking pretty much stock so I wouldn't use it on that car, but if I had body mods I'd be all over it.

As it mounts to the body and not the tank, this is the safest solution. For it to be a 100% functional 1 shot pop top lid, it would have to be mounted to the tank and float through the body.

I like it.
