Okay guys, I tend to find I have a better shot at accomplishing my goals when I announce them to all of you here. That way I can get your feedback, and some of you are good about holding me accountable to them.
So, looking ahead to 2003, we plan on making it a goal this time to drive Killer to the 50th celebration in June at the NCM, etc. What I learned from my trip to the NCM over Labor day is that....
There are some aweful rough roads between there and there (some fun twisties too). It is a good solid 11-13 hour run depending on other factors. I need plenty of storage/capacity for luggage, tools, chairs, shade tent, etc as those things come in handy. We need more gears. There is no way I will feel comfortable taching 3,000 RPM for 11 hours straight on the monster big block (sucking fuel and wearing out my a/c, power steering pump etc).
Since we nailed our overall "show" goals for the car the first time out, I am not that worried about the "wear and tear" on the car over the next year. In fact, some scratches and road chips will give it some more character.
Right now I have an issue with some fiberglass shrinkage in the upper front clip that happened after it sat in the sun over that labor day weekend for the first time. I will eventually have to block the nose back down and reshoot, but I am going to leave that alone in favor of reshooting after we get some road chips etc. to boot. This time, when I get to B.G., I just plan on driving and using the car vs. polish, shine, clean, prep, pimp, just to put on display. The only award I may get is for the dirtiest car there!
Here are the plans.
1. Richmond six speed
2. full dyno tweak and tune to have the engine fully maximized for round two with the Breathless Dyno (if it is there then)-thinking about a 250 hp shot of NOS just in case.
3. Construction and completion of a trailer to tow behind the car made out of the rear clip I have from a 79 Vette.
4. Consideration of a better brake system (at least I plan on looking for a more modern aluminum housing master cylinder) .
Right now we are set to caravan with TZracer in the sister project coupe to Killer (the 71 big block). That car is starting to make some real progress, and mostly because I have learned from mistakes on Killer to better direct the efforts on that machine.
So, what do you guys think? Can we do it? Should we do it? Are you going to hold me to it? Will you put up with me when I start whining and complaining with weeks to go before the trip and things start going wrong?
