Looks like another scam.... '57 for 9K

Reply from seller:

Hello dear eBayer,

First of all let me tell you that I am pleased that are interested in my eBay auction.

The 'pre-approved buyer' feature has been added to prevent non serious buyers from ending the auction early, I hope you have no problem with that. You have to know that the car I am selling is 100% working and great looking, no flaws or dents, no scratches or any kind of damage, no flood or wrecked, the interior looks amazing. I am it's second owner, the first owner was my father.

I just moved to Italy because my wife is Italian and she wanted to be closer to her parents as they are old and very ill. The car is here with us as well. We are expecting a baby in a few weeks and I really want to improve the old house we bought when we moved in time for the baby.

I have bought and registered the car back in the United States , but unfortunately I wasn't able to register it here in Europe. For that I have pay a very big fee and I will also have to start an individual procedure for the vehicle through the Government and I really can't afford those expenses right now with the baby on the way.

Those are the reasons why the price I want for it is just $9,000.00 USD. Shipping will be done by boat and the car will arrive in 5-7 days. The car will be inssured at the shipping company for the transport. All documents, including owner's manual in english, clear title and bill of sale will be provided along with the car.
I will need a $3,000 US deposit in order to ship the car with the ballance to be paid upon receiving the vehicle. The transaction will be made under eBay's buyer protection plan called Square Trade. I'm a serious seller and a fair trader and I prefer to deal only with a serious buyer. If you consider yourself one please e-mail me back so we can start our deal.

So, please reply back with your full name and shipping address and your eBay username if you are really interested in purchasing this car so we can start the arrangements!

My best wishes!

Where do I sign up??? ;LOL

Note the Auction is from Ontario... Yeah that's close to Italy!

I wonder how many people get burned this way. At one time I was looking at a 73 Z28 and e-mailed the guy, got a similiar reply as to the one above, I ran as fast as I could.

Some people must be falling for it though, because these things keep coming up and it does still cost money to even post items on E-bay right?

Buyers Beware

Got the exact same response on the second car too, word for word.... ;LOL

Maybe they had to sell both cars because they're having twins!;LOL

We get weekly faxes here for guys in Africa who have "inherited" millions tied up in gov't. red tape and can't get it out the country without your help! If you pay the transfer fees and give them "X" $ up front for legal fees and expenses they will give you 10-20% of the total when it clears at some later date!;LOL . Amazing some are even from "Royalty" :eyerole . Scary thing is someone somewhere eventually gets greedy and nibbles.

It takes Corvette Central longer than that just to ship me a pulley.

Next time send them a $3000 US deposit and see if you get it faster!!! ;LOL

This is actually a very sad but true trend happening. I work at credit union and see this sort of thing happen more often than you'd like to think. In fact a scam was tried on me. I had posted my 2000 eclipse on autotrader to sell it (I was selling to get my dream machine - my 92 Vette). Three days after I posted the ad I got an email from a couple that wanted to buy my car without having seen it. They had a cashiers check already made out but unfortunatley it was for a substantial amount over my selling price. They wanted to send me the cashier's check which I will deposit into my own account and then send the difference. They would then send a shipper to get my car. The difference I was to send them turned out to be $9000. I emailed them back and told them to take a flying leap off of a bridge. I found out later that there were people that banked at my credit union that had fallen for the scam and were out $7500.

Most of these people that get scammed are elderly people that are too trustworthy of people and don't realize what they are doing when they give their account numbers on phone. I had one lady come in and showed me a letter that state that she had supposedly won $480,000,000 in the Australian lottery. But the bank would not release the money unless she sent them $5000.00 for handling fees. I asked her if she had even entered this so called Australian. She replied No. I told her it was a scam and she got mad at me and yelled at me for not believing her.

IF IT IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT JUST MIGHT BE!

Beware of certified checks

There is also a scam going on where they come to you with a certified check drawn out to your bank..... the bank is boggas and so is the check.... they will approach you on friday with the check and leave with you car or item with title in hand and when it comes monday ,,,, you go to your bank to find out the check is no good.... your car is gone never to be seen again....:mad :cry

I got a finish mower for sale on equipment trader and got this email

SENDER'S NAME: terry hull
TELEPHONE: 2347204181

Phone number is no good, and obviously a scam of some sort. I just don't know what the scam would be. Give them the address and they try to steal it? I replied with a call me. I have heard nothing back.

Do people not know that American classic cars bring a higher price in Europe. Every time I see one of these scams I think ¨who the f*** is stupid enough to believe this crap¨.

Today there are only 2 57´s for sale in Euro-land. I know the seller of this one and the price is NOT negotiable!

EUR 69.900

Data:
180 kW (245 PS), Initial registration date: 07/57, MOT technical inspection: 12/06, black, petrol,
Extras:
Classic vehicle

Description:
Das Fahrzeug wurd komplett ( Body off ) restauriert und befindet sich in einem absolutem Topzustand. Leder Rot.

BTW 96.900€ = US$94365

There is nothing like the mentioned big hassel getting vintage cars on the road in Europe.....all you need is correct customs papers....get a confirmation that you are street legal by the appropriate organization and the papers that are necessary for registration....that is ofr a working car in good condition all in all probably something like $1000.

....however you find these type of scams not only in ebay but as well in the marketplaces....

....crazy.
