Loud A/C compressor

Ever since I got my 84, the compressor has been very loud at an idle. The resonance inside the cab is horrible. I took it to a shop and had them check out the A/C when I first got it, but they didn't seem concerned with the noise. Really it's not very noticeable unless your inside the car. It blows very cold and other than the noise, it works really well. Is there a way to quiet it down?
