I love my exaust sound outside the car, but a little to much of it comes inside. Has anyone used dynamat or some other product like it to help keep the rumble out? If you have what did you use? Where did you get it? Did it help?

thanks

John

Home Depot has some duct insulation that is 1/4 inch gray foam with aluminumfoil on one side and is sticky on the other. I pulled all the carpet out and layered the inside with the stuff. Filled the cracks using foil tape. Not only is it quiet but I get no heat off the tunnel from the cat or exhaust.Made the car sound solid...
I would advise anybody to do the same, the difference is night and day...next is the doors....

Eagle,
Did you reinstall the factory insulation on top of the duct insulation after or just put the carpet on top? Under my carpet is some pretty thick material in the hatchback. But it looks cheap.

John,
If you're trying to solve resonance problems you'll need more than duct insulation and it'll get expensive.

Better:

Expensive:

In most places I did away with the stuff that bwas there...under the dash you could see where the mice loved making homes with the stuff. I went back today and put down another layer of some new stuff I found...foil on both sides with bubble wrap in the middle. New type insulation for a/c and duct work. I can't hear a thing outside from in the car...listening to the radio is pure joy again. Open the door and you can hear the pipes well enough...close the door you can't tell the engine is running until you look at he dash. Let it idle....ran up to 225 when the fans kicked in...no heat off the tunnel, no heat at the drink holder...yea the beer stays cold....
If you are going to replace the carpet do not get any backing....coat the car with the foam then the new stuff and you will be very happy.

What kind of exhaust are you running?

Dynamat installed

I installed Dynamat Xtreme this weekend. Not only did it muffle the pipes, but the music sounds great. I did not beleive the hype about sound deadners before, but I am sold! Two notes for anyone doing this:
1) The Xtreme product has a aluminum backing and the edges are a little rough on bare hands as you install, I recommend gloves or other tools (you need a roller) :eek
2) Seperate and label the screws you remove, at 1:00 AM you may not remember where the screw you removed at 3:00 PM the previous day went :crazy

I tried B-Quiet L-Comp and Brown Bread. It helped mine some but not that much or as much as I expected/hoped. (I have a 422, gutted cats, long tubes, and Borla XR1). I was hoping it would help decrease the resonance more than it did.

John,
Couple of questions. How much does the Dynamat Xtreme cost? Sheet size? How much did you use and where did you put it?
