Low Temp Reading - #2 Cylinder

My mechanic informed me that the #2 Cylinder is registering a signficant lower temperature than the other cylinders. He used a laser-like device that provides a digital readout of temperatures. He pointed it at the headers and got various readings from the exhaust "tubes," but the #2 was quite a bit cooler. Can't remember the differences from the other 7, but it was much lower.

What could the problem be?

NEED more info. hows it run ? Have you changed anything lately? just need more info. will be happy to help :L :confused :w

I can tell you this much ..on diesels that is how we see who ain`t fireing. How does it run? bad injector ,bad or leaking valve or even bad rings . could also be spark related .Got your work cut out for ya . Just my 2cents

Cooler unburned fuel/air instead of hot exhaust flowing out that cylinder, implying bad ignition or bad injector. Low cam intake lobe too, I suppose.

"Significant difference" is too subjective, we need numbers. If the other 7 are within 20 degrees and #2 is 50+ degrees cooler, that would worry me.

Best case for your wallet is a single broken plug wire. Have him follow up by measuring spark firing voltages and burn times.

Why was he measuring that in the first place?

Thanks for all the feedback. I will try and get specific readings to provide more information. The car generally runs great, however, there are occasions it idles rough for 5-6 minutes after initial start-up when it has been parked for several hours. Once it warms up it's fine. Though can't help but wonder how much power I'm losing even when it's appears to idling ok...
