Lower Intake oil leak

Today I noticed some oil puddling on the lower intake passenger side rear near the EGR tuble. Will a new intake gasket fix this or is there something else that I need to look into. I also have a small collant leak that I hane not been able to find. Could this be related? Thanks!!!

This is not unusual. Try the stopleak tabs that the General recomendw in the TSB's. If your coolant isn't going low excesively, just live with it till you have to fix it. But try the tabs, might fix it :w :beer

Could you post a little more info on these tabs? And I can find them in the TSB for my year? Thanks for the help.

Craig

You can get the Cooling System Seal Tabs PN 3634621 at your local dealership. Cooling system tabs aid in sealing porosity in aluminum and remove silicates from the water pump shaft (that form from the coolant) to extend water pump seal life.

OK, I'm gonna say it, since you guys don't seem to wanna.

This sounds like the infamous intake leak only to be solved with new gaskets and RTV "The Right stuff" on the ends. I know, that was last winters project.

With both oil and coolant, I think I would do the gaskets, you could also just try tightening the intake bolts with a little sealer on them.

Just my .02 worth

Thanks for the tip. I did some research here on the site and came to the same conclusion. I looking as getting the FEL-PRO gaskets. Do you happen the know the correct part number for a 86 with alum. heads? Thanks

Craig

Fel-Pro's site shows the part number for an intake manifold gasket for an 86 L98 with Alum heads....as

MS93318.

Did you use "The Right Stuff" around the water inlets? Also, the manual calls for some thread locker on the manifold bolts, are you saying that you used "T.R.S?"

On the ends as stated. Thread lock on the bolts :beer

I have the same thing. But mine is leaking just a little from the base of the distributor shaft. If the oil is found above the mating surface of the intake to the block, it's coming from the distributor hole, not the intake. The oil leak will obviously travel down and not up. A small ammount of "The Right Stuff" on the distributor shaft gasket will stop this. This is an excellent sealant that I now use exclusively with great results.
