Lower Right Side Dash Removal

Fellow LT-1 owners,

I have an AM-FM Stereo in my car, but only the right channel works. I beleive the left channel is wired to the right speaker because when I adjust the right to left fade on the unit, I get sound from the right speaker when adjusted to the left.

I understand there is an auxiliary amp of some sort under the passanger dash that is suppose to feed the right speaker that I do see, but would be nice to get to. I removed what I thought was all the screws but the lower dash still seems to be held in somehow.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, I'd really like to have the stereo working by the spring.

Robert--If you have taken out the screws that go from the lower dash pad to the upper dash and taken out the screws from the lower dash pad to the center guage bezel that is all there should be. The vent sometimes can be a bit of a bugger but should pull out. Good luck--

I don't want to just jank at it. Does the vent detach, or does it just pull out?

It should just pull straight out--it's just like putting two pvc pipes together--one fits inside the other. The only other thing I can think of is there is a screw on the inside of the door well by the spring--it takes a little shorty screwdriver to get it out--I will check back and see if you got it out a little later

Ok, I got the lower dash out. I'm attempting to get both radio speakers working. I've determined that the left speaker needs replacing. I've loosened all screws and removed the pillar post covers. The dash seems to be free, but won't come out. Any help would be appreciated.

Robert--the dash pad is actually slightly longer than the space between pillar posts---therefore with a dash that is 30+ years old some extreme care is needed. I used an electric blanket and laid it accross the top of the dash--when sufficiently warmed, gently gently lift the dash pad in the middle just above the gauge bezel and that should be enough to clear the pillars. A hair dryer can be used and sweep it from side to side to get the achieved results. A second pair of hands is quite useful. Good Luck

Thanks for the advice, but I'm quitting while I'm still ahead. I haven't broken anything and want to keep it that way. I guess come the spring, I'll open my wallet and get it done for me. I thought that this was a job even I could accomplish. WRONG!!!
