lOWERING PROBLEMS!

Hi,

I have just bought an ecklers lowering kit. The back end has sat down real nice, but I cant notice a difference on the front! Am I putting the front wedges in the wrong place? Where should they be??

Have you driven the car at all? It sometimes takes a few miles for everything to settle

Jay

Yeah, Its been lowered for a week, and I drive it every day!

The back is fine. Its just the front thats the problem!

Where should these wedges go?

I didnt get any instructions with the kit!

hey there,
i had an 89'that i lowered, like you i was unhappy.i went back in and took the rubber out and left it like that, nice look,oh,im sure you did this already, make sure you cut all the old rubber off, theres a lowering thread in the c4 mods, started by Micke,it has pictures of my lowered c4 and c5.check out Da Hawaiian Punches car his c4 has no rubber wedges either.later,Todd.

Heres a "copy and Paste" instructions that I had writing out for a fellow member about a year ago, and also did this same just recently for another member about 2 weeks ago, so here you go, and I hope this will help you out........

It's so easy to do! Infact, the hardest thing to do is to cut the rubber off the spring.. that stuff on there is tuff!!
Unbolt the outer tie rod & sway bar, on both sides, losen the spring retainers which is holding the leaf spring to the frame of the car.
On either side that you what to start on first, get a block of wood ( 2 by 4 ) and a small floor jack will be fine, put the wood along with the jack under the spring closest to the a-arm, with out it being ON the a-arm it's self and slowly jack the spring up untill it's not resting on the lower a-arm ( about a 1/4 to an 1/2 inch off ) Disconect the ABS sensor thats located on the brake assembly, thats very important for you to do so!! ( if yours has one) remove the 2 bolts that are holding the shocks to the lower a-arm (they're located near the spring in the lower a-arm), unbolt the lower ball joint stud nut, you can use a two jaw puller or what I did was unscrew the nut untill it covered the end of the stud and with a hammer, tap on the top of the nut and not that hard or you'll ruin either the nut it's self or the stud or both. (try using a hard rubber mallet first)
Before doing this, find something to put under the wheel hub.. another block of wood would be fine just to stabilize it and it should come free with no problem!!
repeat this on the other side and let the presure off from the 2 by 4 and jack free and you should be able to slide the spring out from either side after you pull back at the wheel hub away little, the spring will slide out from the lower a-arm.
It will not come out all the way if the car is not jacked up high enough and it does not have to!! you just need to be able to slide the spring far enough to be able to reach the rubber mounts.
With a steak knife or I prefered a hack saw blade, saw off the rubber mounts and try not to cut into the spring it's self... take your time, don't rush!!.
Do this on both sides.
(Helpfull hint: while cutting the rubber off, lift up on the side that you started cutting at, at the same time you cutting away, the reason is that if you dont do this, the rubber will grab onto the knife/sawblade and you'll make very slow progress if any at all. The first side that I did without doing this took me about an hr and a half to cut, untill I lifted the rubber up off the blade thats sliding back and forth, the other side took 10 min to complete the job, big difference.)
This will give you the drop that your, I think looking for!!!
The wheels will be, depending on what size rims you've got, if your running stock 17's will be about an 1 inch to an 1 1/4 from the fender wells, and NO!! THEY WILL NOT RUB!!
You will have to of course hopefully with out saying, take the wheels off to do this job, and the ride is fine, just a little more stiff, and I do mean, A LITTLE!!
I hope this helps Aloha.
e-mail me if you want bigger visions of lowerd pictures of my car at Dahawaiianpunch@hawaii.rr.com

Go to Mid America's web sit......look up the instruction page...you will find all you need with pic's and all there.....all you have to do is print them out.....
Hope this helps you.....

The C-4 with no spacer (where the wedge goes) only has about 1/2" to lower without changing front end components. The poly wedge is about 1/4" thick. The math is easy from there.

The rear can be lowered a LOT, by comparison. I gained a whole new perspective on driveways and speed bumps since lowering mine.

hello,
the two c4s that Da Hawaiian Punch and i have lowered have no spaces. and we put my original c5 wheels on Da Punches car,(look at his sig)and both cars had no alignment or any other problems.:D handles like a go-cart,you can try it,and if you dont like it put the wedges back in.just showing an example of how low we like to go with our corvettes.he does not have to go this low,but he should see what it looks like, people always complement the stance of my car.my C5 could go lower but the roads here will not let me do that.but no matter how low you go,keep double checking everything for a couple weeks, saftey first,later,Todd.:_rock

hi there!

The firts pic is a kind of joke, but it is possible. The Netherlands is the country of the best coil-over systems. I have found a company who develloped a coil-over set of my vette. They have sets for 84/85/86 and for later vettes like 89, because two of my friens have them too. Is a three way system, and you can make also a choice in different springs too. Different in stiffness and length. Three way means also that you can adjust the bound and rebound.

I have lowerd my vette as low as possible and driveble! We have very bad roads in The Netherlands you know. The space between my fender and my tire is now 1". And it is awsome!!

Ken,

You should buy this!!!! You never will be sorry that you have made this choice. I can help you also with the mounting and the choice, and the adjusting of the chocks and wheels. You will be amazed how fast you can made the cornerings. Price: 2500 Euro's all around. CHEEEEEEEEEEAAAAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!

I have a big oilpan and highvolume oilpomp now, also a oilcooler. Electrical waterpump (csi), and (that's awsome too) a electrical powersteering wich is adjustibel too. After the summer I will mount the long time wanted big brakes in front (355mm floting discks)(six caliperpistons) of APR. Huge braking..hihihi

This winter a will start my engine projekt, and a made my choice now, I will mount an LS1 off road engine.

How are you?

Do you have MSN Messenger ?

John

Hi Johnny, I'm ok. :w

Believe me, I have been seriously pondering such a set-up for my ride. I just cannot make a firm decision yet as to the best approach, seeing as how I plan on doing some drag racing, yet want to have the "canyon carving" capabilities that I can so easily find a need for here. :D

Besides, I like the look! :upthumbs

Good luck with your engine project. Be prepared for many changes as you go. ;)

_ken :w

No, I don't use MSN messenger anymore, but I have been keeping my Yahoo messenger open lately.

ken

A I glad to hear you are fine. I have ask for the price of teh coil-overs again. When you wanted to have a complete adjustible setup, then you have to pay about 3000 € without tax and shipping. The setup with non adjustible shocks (only hight) the are cheaper. I use the full race shocks.

I donot use yahoo mess, only msn mess.

john

this is my friend Hans

Also with the full race coil-overs.

Punch man that is low! how did you get yours so low like that? I know you posted here about it but you did a 2 inch drop? [/B]
Hi, sorry it took so long to answer you, I miss read your reply, and thought the question was for someone else.
So that I dont have to explain the whole process, look back a few pages on this thread, and it'll show you how we did the lowering.
I did go a little more then the "average" person would usaully go,
After going through the process of lowering, I took out the rubber pads that the leaf spring rest on in the a-arm or a-frame, I cut away some of it so it'll still have some pading there.
I dont have "coil over", cant afford them, so I make do with what I have.
Oh! to answer your question about how much I dropped the car, dont know for sure, 2, 2 1/2 inch drop? I know that it is physiclly impossibel for me to drop it any futher unless I go to a different suspension
