I have an 02 Vert A4 and I want to shut off or adjust delay in the Torque Manager. I also want to add Long Headers and an exhaust. I want to get my car tuned, but I also want to have the ability to adjust and reflash my PCM. Should I buy a tuner? Is the LS1 the better one? I heard that a lot of tuners don't allow torque manager adjustments.

First, I want to turn off the manager. It drives me crazy and I think it causes more harm than good. Is there someone in San Antonio that will just adjust only this for me to start. I don't want to waste $450 or so doing a tune without any mods.

Second, should I buy my own tuner or just rely on the shops to tune?
Open to ideas.

Hi there,
Torque management is engineered to reduce driveline torsional shock to the automatic transmission, that is why is it not as noticeable on the manual transmissions.
It does alot and should not be messed with, unless you can also install a substantially upgraded 4L60-E transmission that can take that type of abuse.
Torsional shock is the KILLER of automatic transmissions that are used at the drag strip.
Otherwise, the tranmission is pretty bullet proof when used correctly and maintained..
Programming with an LS1 edit or other reflash system should only be done with a professional doing it and KNOWING what they are doing.
Alot of 'programmers' I have run across dont know what they are telling the PCM to do, and it creates problems.

My problem is the drastically long throttle delay when I step down hard on the throttle. I punch it and the kickdown hesitates almost 1 1/2 seconds before it kicks in. By this time I am already accelerating a little and have to let off just as the throttle kicks in. It drives me crazy. Not to mention that I almost got hit trying to get out of the way of a car coming up from behind one day. I mashed down on the throttle, but it delayed before kicking in. Just barely made it out of the other driver's way. Thsi can be dangerous in the wrong situation. I just want to get rid of this delay. Everyone says it is the TM.

H ithere,
I do NOT belive that it is the torque management.
Based on what you are talking about, this is more like transmission shift delay, which is different.
Torque management will NOT delay shifting, it will throttle back power.
You are telling us that it is NOT down shifting correctly.
I feel that you are experiencing someting differently than torque management.
What work have you had done and what records indicate fluid changes at mileages???
I would need more information on this condition. Does it happen cold, hot, slow speeds, highway speeds, when turning????
Is the fluid level correct????

I changed the fluid in the tranny at 45K and now have 70K on the car. The hesitation happens antytime I stomp on the peddle. Cold, Hot, etc. This has done this from the time I bought it at 20K. I had it checked by the dealers a few times and they say that it is normal to hesitate when you mash down on the acceletator. I have driven other C5 and experience the same issue with A4s. Except theirs does not seem to have the hesitation time that mine has. It is more of a throttle hesitation than a shift down. It even happens if I start off easy and I am gradually shifting from first and then into second (and then I mash the throttle and the delay happens) I guess you could call it throttle hesitation. No mods have been done to my car yet. I am going to order the TransGo shift kit for it.

Sounds like you may just want to tweak shift firmness......many handhelds will do that..............
