I was wondering if the LS3 crate motor would fit in my 97 C5? If so I am going to purchase that instead of AFR heads. Any help is most appreciated.

The LS3 should bolt right in. Physically, it's the same size as your stock LS1.

thank you that's what I thought. Thanks for all your help Hib

Now, that sounds like a plan! :thumb

I dream of doing the same thing with an LS7 for my 1998 Vert

MS Gulf coast

It should bolt right in, but expect some minor wiring changes. For example, when we put the LS2 stroker motor in my C5, we found that the knock sensors had to be relocated and the wiring to the throttle body was different.

I've gone to Lingenfelters website a few times and drooled. But I don't really have 20K for a LS7 project. Perhaps in a few years LS3's will be common enough where I can buy and install one for 6K or so. That would be in my budget.

I ended up going with the mongoose street heads and cam with long tube headers x pipe and random tech cats. I figured with those mods I will be getting more HP than a LS3 which has about 430hp to where my LS1 with those mods will have around 480-500hp so My car is in the shop and will be done no later than thursday i'll keep everyone updated. Thanks for the help everybody.

>>>>>How much different was the cost of the projects?<<<<

Yes, good question.

Can't wait to see some hp numbers after the project is done!
Please keep us posted.

Ok...let me get this straight...an LS1 with street heads, headers and low-restriction casts makes 480-500 hp.

Holy crap....I want some of these "Mongoose" street heads.:thumb

A 24% increase in HP from the mods you described is a little hard to believe. Are you doing anything else, like a cam, increase compression? What size are these Mongoose heads? Are you making changes to the intake manifold and throttle body? Anyway I would be curious what numbers you will pull after it's done. Keep us posted. :upthumbs

No I have intake and exhaust and 11.1 compression ratio heads and yes I have all the throttle body and cam it says with the long tube headers x pipe and high flow cats its about 38rwhp and with the heads and cam its around 85hp ill b running 100 octane and it's expensive lol. so i would like to c around 100hp increase we'll see i'll keep everyone updated

I just got my car back from the shop yesterday. I was extremely excited and when I talked up to the main mechanic he said that is enough power. He said he wouldn't be suprised if i was pushing 500HP. When I pulled out of the parking lot I was amazed what kinda power it produced. It is well worth the money and time that was taken. I do recommend AFR street heads 11:1 comp. and lingenfelter cam with LG longtube headers high flow cats and x-pipe. It's way way more power than I thought it would have and the sound is excellent too. Thank you Lingenfelter, Random technology, LG motorsports, Westcoastcorvette, and Oakdale auto.:upthumbs

Unless GM has already done it for you the reluctor wheel will have the number of teeth. You'll have to swap it out so that it will work with the LS1 PCM.
