The large black plastic tube that connects the air filter to the intake plenum on my 2010 GS has an additional chamber located on the side of it. This is the air intake tube that feeds the engine. This additional chamber is an expansion of this tube and I see them on my Tahoe's both 2011 and 2016. What are they there for? Are they like a reservoir to provide constant air during engine operation? The LS7 found in the Z06 does not use these.
Thanks
Al

I was told that the extra chambers on the air intake are sound suppressors - mufflers - to quieten some objectionable noises. The LS3 needs them while the LS7 does not due to the larger engine size.

Did I get it right?

:thumb:thumb As Tuna says, they are in fact silencers. Intake air can make every much as much noise in the passenger compartment as the exhaust!! Remember putting that open element air cleaner on your '64 Chevy 283??? Was it really more horsepower? Or did it just sound SO much better??:happyanim::happyanim::happyanim:
