A Grand Sport with an LS7 would be a Z06. The differences being convertible and automatic availability in the GS . However, seeing it's a parts bin effort, I can see Chevy doing it regardless of whether it makes sense.

Have the GM Marketing people finally woke up?

They're still sleeping.
Desperate for sales, they've further reduced the Z06's distinctiveness.

The only bright spot in Chevrolet's latest move is: allowing the Grans Sport buyers (a third of which would have made perfect XLR customers) to order LS7, opens the way for Chevrolet to return the Z06 to its roots, ie: a reduced-content, "almost-a-track-car" model.

Will they do that?:confused

We can only hope.

Offer More Models To A Shrinking Universe?

Rich,
We've had similar conversations in the past. The best one was around guys ordering new Carbon Edition Z06's and then realizing that for very little more they could have a highly discounted ZR-1 that's been sitting on a dealers lot. I'd have to say that the Corvette Marketing guys continue to make the same mistakes. First, that in this economy, it's probably more cost effective to have fewer models while at the same time sharing all the parts bins across all models. And secondly, stop offering so called Special Additions every time someone in the office farts.

You are right. The whole marketing/new model scheme for the last few years just scream desperation. They will do anything that doesn't take dollars or developmental costs. The result is boredom 2 years after the introduction of a new generation. GM thinks "continuous product improvement" begin and ends in the paint and graphics departments.

THAT is awesome.

THAT is awesome.
Until you try to track it, then you'll discover no track will allow you to run unless you fit a roll cage. Suddenly, you realize having an LS7 in a roadster isn't such a hot setup...:ugh

That kinda goes without saying. Roadsters are pretty much banned from most venues that worry about loss of life and resulting lawsuits. Stock C6 roadsters are banned in most drag venues since they run under 13 seconds.

You guys are so lucky you live in the USA, I can think of at least a 100 reasons why I would love to live there. BUT, living over here in Europe does have it's advantages. One of them being you can have a lot of fun on the track without to many bothersome rules. The only annoying rule has to do with the noise, it's a maximum of 95 db on the track.

Here are some photos of a track weekend on the Zolder (former F1) racetrack in Belgium, I'm the one with the big smile in the red C6.
