At my school there are tons of Camaros and Firebirds. Most are completely stock. How does a vette stack up against the newer cars. I know it handles better but what about from the stop light?

I know I had read that at one time the LS1 Ram Air Trans Am had a faster quarter mile time then the same year c5 with the LS1 so I'd say its faster then any stock C4 as well in the same test, but handling and knowing how to lay down the power is where the vettes surpass all of the others. I would like to see what a stock C4 would do up against a stock camaro LS1 in the quarter and the slalom.

Considering that the LS1 is rated at 45-50 more HP and more torque than an LT1, the LT1 is probably going to lose. It really depends on the driver however. Can you launch better than the others?

If you're talking about one of the SS Camaros or WS6 'birds, you could be in for real trouble.

If you're looking to turn heads and have people envy you, the Corvette is still the ticket. Like you say, Camaros and Firebirds are everywhere.

I think this is your sign to start doing mods! :D

I dont have a vette yet, hopefully by the end of summer things will be different. (I found a burgandy 94' with 65,000 miles and a 6sp for $15,500). I definitely want a vette to stand out from the crowd of camaros and mustangs (what i have now) and while straight line speed is a big factor, I'm willing to give up a few tenths in the 1/4 for the handling and prestige of a vette

The LS1's in the F-Body has 325hp, 350 torque stock. Most won't be totally stock however. Assuming you're giving up 25 hp and torque, it will be all about the driver, and the cars ability to hook up off the line. The vette has a little less weight. It will be a good race, which is why I modified my car, I don'tr want a good race, I want to win!

Good Luck!

:upthumbs I like that attitude! :beer

I spanked a Z28 Ls1 at the dragstrip for two tents, but at that time I didn't have cats and already had the Magnaflows!

Now, with the long tube headers, rear end swap to 3.54 (I had 2.59), TB bypass, underdrive pulleys, whole MSD ignition system & AFPR I feel the need to go back to the strip and see if I can find there a stock C5 or a Boxter just to see how I'm doing :D

What I'm trying to say here is that it doesn't take much $ to make your pride & joy a little bit quicker-faster. They are already fast when they left the dealers room. But like somebody just said: (garycr14)

Edmond; For your last five or six posts I can see you're in need for speed!
Just go ahead man and spank some stangs!!! ;)

Yeah, maybe it's the effect of the long cold lonely winter the Vette' had! But I'm gonna do something this year so sure! :upthumbs
