LT4 LT4 heads question

How expensive is it to have your LT4 heads ported and polished? how much horsepower will it add? where can you get it done at? would it be cheaper than getting new heads? im thnking about doing this when i put my hotcam in. i would think it would add more power to have P&P heads with a hotcammed engine than with a stock motor. am i wrong?

Try looking in the following thread "LT1 to LT4 Conversion" in the C4 Mods forum. Tuna has taken the LT4 head and Hot Cam kit and installed it on his LT1, and I think the heads were ported. Granted it's not the LT4 bottom end but I think his results may give you a baseline to look at with respect to increased HP and Tourque with the mods your thinking about. Tuna's engine is pushing 400 HP and close to 400 lbs torque at the crank.Wayne

If you are replacing the cam, that would be the time to do the head work, as you'll have it pretty much apart at that time anyway. The front end stuff is the most labor intensive from what I understand - I took the lazy route when I replace my heads, and paid someone to do it. The P&P cost will vary depending on how much work you want them to do. A guess would be $300 - $600 to do a good job. I bought AFR heads & by the time they were ported & polished the cost of the heads alone was $2200 +/- not including the install. Made a HUGE difference in performance my LT1 with the LT4 heads & inake is dynoing at 315 hp at the rear wheels, and this is an automatic. I would guess with the P&P heads, and the hot cam with your 6 speed you should 350-375 hp at the wheels.
