I've had a 96/LT4 with 41K miles on it for 5 years and a 94/LT5/ZR1 with 22K miles now for 5 weeks. The LT4 is a wonderful machine. Lots of great low-end torque. For street driving I sometime can't tell if I'm in 2nd or 4th as it pulls so hard in either gear. My, new to me, LT5 is a pig in the low end of the RPM's. It hesitates and coughs during idle to WOT operations. I've thrown some bucks at it with a couple of shops looking for something wrong. They tell me the numbers are correct and I may have to live with it! Mind you the LT5 pulls real hard in the 3000 + RPM range. But in the lower range that we tend to drive them in, frankly it's a dog, at least mine is!

I still have the 96 and may sell the 94 if I can't get it running correctly. I wanted to let you guys on this site know, as if you didn't already know it, that the LT4 is a sweet engine. Chev to this day is still running singe camshaft, push-rod motors and kicking ass with them.

Anyone know of a ZR1 engine man up here in the NW?

Thanks,
Al

I see you didnt' take my advice. Jeffvette on Corvetteforum.com lives in the same city as you and he is probably the most knowledgable guy about ZR1s in the NW....there are quite a few ZR1 guys in that area.

Hey Josh,
I've been trying Corvetteforum.com but can't get on the list. The usual road blocks i.e. user name, passwords and e-mail address it doesn't like or recognize. So Kimosaby I'll follow that site and maybe they'll let me on it someday. If not what is Jeffvette address? Thanks for the help, BTW it is Christmas.

The LT5 is certainly not an engine that coughs. It makes 300+ lb-ft from 1,000 rpm up to 6,000 rpm, which is stouter than the L98/LT1/LT4 I believe (the factory graph for my L98 showed 280 lb-ft at 1,600 rpm, and the LT1/4 is supposedly weaker down low than this).

It sounds like you need to have someone competent take a look at it. Have you joined the ZR1 Net Registry? I imagine the listserv will help you find several owners in your area willing to help you out or at least point you to a good shop. CF is also a good place to get info, as said.

Don't they have some sort of "valet" function that retards ignition? Not trying to be smart , but have you checked this? good luck, Guy

The valet key only disables the secondaries. It has nothing to do with the drivability.
Thanks, I was not sure but thought it was worth a try. Guy
