Can the MAF Sensor be some how cleaned to make it operate properly,
or does it have to be replaced in ALL cases? Thanks.

It is a VERY sensitive filament of wire.

And it can be cleaned. CAREFULLY. Spray cleaner, and a model paintbrush. Gently.

What is the data log showing on MAF sensor? Open Loop reading does not count (I think it doesn't even LOOK at it, when cold???)

Hot wire MAFs can be cleaned but it is 1) a painstaking process and 2) not always the solution.

First, use only electronic contact cleaner to do it. Don't use carb cleaner or "brakeclean" products. I first spray the hot wire array then I take a Q-Tip, spray a little contact cleaner on it then gently wipe down each thermistor and it's support frame.

I find that with the newer style MAFs a magnifying glass is necessary and you may need some small tweezers to grab and remove any tiny cotton fibers left by the Q-Tip. The older (late C4 and C5) units are easier to clean once you split the MAF's aluminum end frames.

Again, be very careful when you attempt to clean the wires. It's easy to break the wires and, if you break just one, the MAF is scrap.

In the case of MAF's which do not have problems such as cracked PC boards or burnt-out components, if the hot wires are dirty or coated with oil, this technique works quite well.

Mr. Trav...

You have got 4 threads current right now. Ask the mods to merge (or delete some) of these threads.

You have GOT TO STAY ON ONE CHANNEL, for diagnostic procedure for ONE ENGINE.
