What happened to you. Miss your post's.

Still here Tony. Just been messin' with the car. Ya know, trying to make it go a little faster.

Got most of the problems worked out....now I gots to find a decent Dyno-Jet shop in the area that has tuning capabilities. Apparently there are no such places in the entire state of Iowa. Nothing in Eastern Nebraska, nothing in Western Illinois, and nothing in Northern Missouri.

I really do NOT want to take it back to that Doug Rippey place outside of Minneapolis.

There's a 1/4 mile drag strip about 3 hours from here that I plan to take it to and see how much lower my times are since having done that extra work on the car. But that would mean I'd have to get up and on the road by 5AM in order to get there for the T&T runs. No time to let the motor cool down or anything.

So, what's up wid you, Tony? Ever get the vette of yours out of the garage?

TPIS is just west of the cities, in Chaska, MN.

I didn't know TPIS had a chassis dyno-jet. I'll have to check that out. Thanks.

Actually, I don't know if they do either, but the call is cheap and they have been helpful to me. :w

Not stupid, I was just curious :)
Oh duh...my bad. I didn't make the connection between Doug Rippey and those initials. Sorry.

Not really a "problem" per se, just that I didn't care for their rather "impersonal" attitude, and their unwillingness to answer my questions in spite of the fact that three routine pulls cost me 125 bucks! And they felt that I was taking advantage of them by asking about stuff that could improve my numbers.

As a matter of fact, I was basically told that what I got was all that 125 bucks was supposed to cover.....inferring that if I wanted to "know" anything, it would cost me more.

Of course it didn't help my attitude one bit when I tried to find the damned place. What's with these Minnesotans anyway, that they feel the need to hide places like that out in the woods and then not have any signs whatsoever as to their location? TPIS is the same way.

Sorry for the rant. But you asked.

Hi Magikdraggin . I'm just curious about your optispark . Didn't the dyno place in Ft Wayne tell you yours was bad ? Did that turn out to be true ? I heard a couple of people say he was just trying to sell you a new one . Cliff

I am still attempting to find out if I should change the Optispark or not. It is not displaying any noticeable symptoms of malfuntioning.....and mechanics whom I have had listen to the video I made of the dyno run, tell me the way that motor rapped up so quick and smooth, tells them there is nothing wrong with the Optispark on that car.

Yes, he tried selling me one of his super-duper updated and (expensive) optisparks. As a matter of fact the other C4 that was there (the Gran Sport) had similar problems and that owner DID purchase an opti from them.

I have found a few things that were wrong with the motor/computer since then, but according to the resident expert here on the CAC, none of those "fixes" would have had any effect on any EMI problems. And except for the spark plug wires, everything else electrical on the car is factory original. (Even the battery is a Delco replacement).

I suspect, he was trying to get me (as an out of state tourist) to buy one of his Optisparks. Can't prove it, as I haven't found a way to tell if my optispark really is going bad, (short of taking it off....and if I'm going to go that far, I might as well replace it anyway).

I can buy a LOT of hamburgers and fries for what one of those things cost!

Thanks for the update . Let me know if that opti does go out soon . Cliff

I'll be sure to bookmark this and let you know. In the meantime, I wouldn't recomment you "holding your breath" in anticipation or anything.

The way it is running now, it looks highly unlikely to occur anytime soon.

Do you have some connection with that Dyno shop, by any chance?

Thanks for the info. These are the kinds of things I like to know about when selecting who I do business with. Looks like DRM didn't like your name or something

Unfortunately some of these guys ere so spesialized they think there is no where else to go, which is the case in some instances. I had similar experiences with TPIS and a couple other vendors, fortunately most of these guys are enthusiasts and willing to bend over backwards in most cases to help there brothers and sisters :)

I don't have any connection with them at all . Tom and I stopped in just before the Cruise Fest and were given a short tour . I think Tom was as impressed with the place and the owner as I was , but whether or not it's really a good place comes from input from their customers . As Moonunit said "These are the kinds of things I like to know about when selecting who I do business with. " Cliff

My only gripe with TPIS was their direction to 'dimple' their (my) shiny new headers to cure spark plug arcing. e-gad!:eyerole

the ceramic boots are soooooooo much better, as a solution. :w

I have since been told by (others) that Rippy doesn't feel there is any more money to be made from fooling with C4's and that's why he wasn't really interested in serving me with the same fervor he does with his C5/LS1 customers.

There may be a certain degree of accuracy to that remark as his shop was filled with C5's save for one lonely ZR1 that was supposed to be one of the original European prototypes.

He certainly didn't waste any time taking my money, though......and I bet it spent just as easily for him as any C5 bucks he's taken in recently.

So far, TPIS has been willing to help, but they don't seem to enthusiastic about it. And I did detect a bit of "animosity" between the boss at TPIS and Doug Rippey......but then it could simply have been "professional rivalry" too.

"Dimple the headers", ehhh? That's sad to hear, coming from people who should really know better.
