Can you purchase just the magnetic pickup and if so where? The wire coming out of mine just broke off level with the pickup and the wire looks pretty old and frayed. As long as I have the Distributor out, might as well do it right one time---thanks

I got one from my local Parts Plus auto store.

I am assuming this is for a stock HEI distributor.

A 1970 has an HEI distributor? I have and 82 and GM still sells the factory pickup. I just bought one up here in Canada.

If you get stuck. Post the part number and I'll see if one is available up here. Personally I prefer to go with factory.

I do not believe the 1970 model came with the HEI system... however you should be able to convert it over unless it has already been done. Not sure as to the specifics on that detail. The HEI system became standard in the 75 model year for the Stingray. At least that is what I remember, could be off a year or so.

Some contributors to this thread think this pick-up you speak of is an HEI pickup but my guess is, since you've got a 70 LT1, the pick-up you are talking about is that from an OE, 63-74, T-ign distributor. If that's the case, my guess is getting a replacement is going to be difficult and maybe a bit costly.

I'm sure GM hasn't had them for many years. I have an Eckler's catalog open on my desk for another reason and, I just looked in there...no mag. pickups for 63-74 T-ign.

I'm figuring that somewhere in our hobby, perhaps amongst the suppliers who support the restoration side, there is a vendor specializing in early T-ign distributors and, even if there is, I'll bet what you can get is used.

Hopefully, someone else can comment on this thread.

You are right, I don't know what he is talking about. I don't know what I am talking about half the time. But, since nobody else replied, I thought I would get the ball rolling.

To that end, I have achieved my goal.:D
