My first vette should be here tomorrow(unless the owner changes his mind) a 91 triple black 6 speed convertible with 47K. I found this site over the summer and it has given me great info and much helpful feedback from the members, which I will continue to need and use. Thanks for all the help. And now my question.Since I will do most maintainance myself.Any suggestions on which manual would be best. What brand oil filter and oil (has not been using synthetic oil) and Transmission oil.

Engine oil... use a synthetic, it doesn't matter if he was using it or not... I use Mobil 1, others prefer Red Line or other brands.... they all work well, but I know Mobil 1 is an excellent product, and is reasonable in price so I stick with it.

For the manual 6 speed tranny: It uses an unusual gear oil, If I remember correctly, 5W30.... I swapped my '93 6 speed's out for 10W30 Mobil 1 engine oil and it worked excellent... smoother shifts and cooler running.... others will tell you that it shouldn't be used... All I know is the tranny in the old '93 with 104k and Mobil 1 shifted better than my '96 with only 38k.

Sounds like a sweet car First. As already posted go and stay with a good synthetic. I use Mobil1 also but others will work just as well. As far as a manual, get the real deal. The GM service manual for your year. E-Bay has them at a decent price from time to time. No other manual comes close. And what the manual fails to tell you, the members here will.

Have fun with the ride:w

Congrats ( I hope, on the new car) I'm new to this too but I can recommend a manual. Get the GM manual. I've had these manuals before and they tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about your car and, as someone else said, the group will fill in the blanks. Don't waste your money on the Haynes manual, useless. I got a repro ( 2 - 2.5" books) from Zip and if these books are reproductions I can't tell, their perfect but not cheap. Good luck.

You can get information on the manuals at (800) 782-4356. Helms, Inc.

Mobil 1

ACDelco Oil Filter

Get the GM manual from Helm, and keep checking back here at CAC. I've found it much more helpful than even the GM set of manuals.:w
