Went out tonight to buy Mobil 1 and filter for oil change tomorrow and was hit with DIC errors.

Here’s how it went down: This morning when I went out, car started kinda sluggish and I got a “low voltage” message on the DIC. I figured that it was time for a new battery, looked at the ammeter and switched the DIC to voltage and watched it climb from 11 to 13.4 where it normally is. Everything was running fine so I was going to get a new red top next week.

Tonight I went out and was leaving the store when all things went crazy! Many messages “SERVICE ENGINE SOON”, “LOW FUEL” and “REDUCED ENGINE POWER” on DIC. When I clear the messages, “REDUCED ENGINE POWER” and my voltage reading, which is where I had the DIC set remains on. Turned car off to check error codes and get “NO COMM” for all systems.

I have no instruments with the exception of dail ammeter, RPM & Speedometer. Check engine light and airbag lights are lit. Instruments light out, no DRL’s and no remote functions (doors, trunk).

HELP! Have I lost the PCM or is it something else.

HI there,
It sounds like you have lost vehicle communications with the entire system. This is what the 'NO COMM' means. There are a few ways to go about checking this system.
First, you will need to isolate which, if any, control module is not working.
What work has been done to the vehicle since your last post?????
You will need to access the star connectors, located in the picture below with the black tape on them, under the passenger side toe board. You should not have any tape on yours because they should be removed for programming purposes. Remove both tape and plugs from these and see if you can at least get codes out of the IPC. You will have NO COMM for everything but the IPC.
Then, post back and let us know what you have.

c4c5,

Thanks for responding to my thread. Here's where I am now

When I went out this morning I had no accessory power. Trunck swith on dash would not work and car would not start. I put the battery on the charger and started checking all the fuses. While checking the passenger compartment fuse block suddenly the interior light come on and I can now use accessories, car still will not start. I go for the new battery taking the old red top with me to have it checked (it was reading 12.5 volts on my multimeter when I took it out. When I got to parts store their tester said 12.1 volts and it needed a 30 minute charge. I went ahead with the new battery. Got home and installed Car started right up no longer any codes on DIC. Took it out for a 10 minute spin and then pulled the codes listed below.

These codes are all “History” codes. Cleared them all then went for another spin and rechecked codes. Clear all the way. So did just the fact that I pulled the battery solve the problem or was the system somehow reading the low voltage condition from the battery and giving me all this trouble?

Now I would like to check the grounding straps under the A pillars but I can’t see see how they come off. I took the push pin out from the bottom trim piece but the pillar trim just doesn’t seem to give. I don’t want to force it and end up with another issue.

Any other suggestions you have would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

HI there,
The only thing that I can see from your codes is the U1255. This shows me that the entire communications system dropped out, causing the no start that you are talking about.
Unless your battery terminals were loose, I do not believe that this caused the issue.
The BCM controls all lighting function, so even if the battery was good, the lack of communications would cause the no lighting problem you have.
The U1300 could be a clue, as this shows a short circuit to ground on the communications line. So we can basically consider that one of 2 things is happening. Either there is a rubbed through wire, which is touching on a piece of metal, or a control module is shorting out internally.
So if you check your wiring, and it is fine, then it would be down to modules.
Please let us know how you would like to proceed.

Where is the A6-SCM - Seat Control Module U1300 If it is a seperate unit I would like to check it's wiring.

I have checked the ground between the left Headlight and alternator.

I next want to check the two grounds at the A pillars but can't seem to get the trim pieces off. Can anyone offer some guidance with these trim pieces.

HI there,
You dont have to worry about the SCM, because this was the module that saw the communications issue. This is the key, as it is NOT so much what module has the codes, but which one does not.
Based on your RFA having the B0605, I would check the module for the tire pressure/keyless first, and then proceed from there.

tootall,
What did you find, or possibly you haven't had time to work on finding the
problem. If you do, please fill us in on the resolution. Thanks,
Redcars

What I found was it all seemed to stem from the low voltage condition of the battery. Once I replaced the RedTop it has been fine without a hint of trouble.

TooTall, Glad to hear your problems were corrected. Thanks for your reply.
