It's the story of a Carroll County man and his love separated for years, but finally brought together by fate. Their happy ending came courtesy of an internet website. Not Match.com, but Carfax. ABC2’S Joce Sterman has the spin on their reunion.
Jerry Apicella has been reunited with a love he lost touch with in the early 80's. He says, "It just feels great. It feels fantastic." He’s thrilled to have that special bond back in his life and all the benefits that come with it, including 4-speed manual transmission, 235 horsepower and more. See, that love is a silver Corvette Jerry and his wife bought back in 1986. The thing is, they had to trade it in just two years later following the birth of their second child, John. Jerry says, "Soon after he was born, we decided it just wasn't practical anymore. We got a family car."
But Jerry never stopped thinking about his Corvette. He even held on to the registration. And after buying John a new car for college, that piece of paper gave Jerry an idea. He says, "Just by chance I came across the registration for the Corvette. I always wondered what happened to it. So I decided to check it out. It was still around, had low miles and we found the dealer that actually had it."
The only problem is the dealer who now owned his car was 400 miles away in Ohio. But the Apicella’s still wanted to check it out. Carol Apicella says, "I thought he was kidding around so I said sure, go ahead and make the plans. And we did." And when this couple saw the shiny silver Corvette they owned in their youth, the memories just came flooding back. Jerry says, "It's nostalgic and it's sentimental. The car's definitely aged better than I have."
So, 20 years and 48,000 miles later, the Apicella’s are now back behind the wheel. Carol says, "It feels pretty neat actually. It's not the driving force in life but it's a neat feeling that things can happen along the way like that so it was meant to be.
