I am considering converting the carb setup on my Corvette ( 65 327/365 ) to an electronic FI system from Holley, and would like to check out the possible clearance issues. Does anyone have an aluminium " 461" intake manifold on the shelf, that could supply me with the measurement using a straight edge from the bottom of the manifold, to the carburetor pad, front and rear.

Thanks for your time
Bob

I have this 1966-67 ...490 manifold in the basement. It should be virtually identical to the earlier ...461. But I'm not sure where you want the measurements taken.

Thanks for your offer

Thank you Paul79 for your offer to help out, but I would prefer to wait to see of someone happens to have the identical part. I have no doubt that your manifold would retro-fit were I looking for an installation, however this is a very tight fit ( were looking at 1/8 eights of an inch, more or less ) so there is really no room for error here.

I mistake as small as this might oblige me to replace the hood, so I would prefer to err on the safe side. Thank's anyway

regards
Bob

No problem. Good luck with your project. BTW, you live in one of the most beautiful parts of Canada! That stretch of the St. Lawrence is just wonderful.

Got one in the garage but I am out of town right now. If you do not get what you need by the weekend I can measure it then.

Intentions

magicv8, I'm a little confused :eyerole as to how your reply should be interpreted, so I will simply go with it in this way.

I already have the solid poly motor mounts that are ready to install. As far as measurements go, the manufacturer is giving me 10 3/8" to the top of the plenum, and as close as I can measure the present setup is coming in at around 10 1/4".

This, is the reason I ask those who could be of help to respond, and not to impress anyone. As far as hoods, I am aware of how expensive they can get.

regards
Bob

I think what was meant was if your clearance is so tight you may want to "restrain" your motor from "torqueing". To see what I mean all you need to do is put a rear drive auto in gear and power brake it. Watch what the engine does.
All engines will rise some under load on the left side, some way of restraining may be needed if your hood clearance is tight. I have a 52 F1 that uses a Hurst motor mount simular to a C1 which used to break motor mount bolts often until I put a turnbuckle mounted to the left head and frame to restrain it.

bossvette,

Should I understand that you are fortunate enough to have a fuel injected 52, boy that Corvette must be worth a fortune. ;LOL

Thank's for your contribution :beer

I'm sure bossvette is correct. Engine torquing is exactly what MagicV8 was referring to.......a valid concern by the way. ;)

P.S. I suspect that the 1952 F1 Craig was referring to has a box on the back and running boards on the sides. :D But, for the sake of civility, I won't use the manufacturer's name here. ;LOL

Yup, it does; with the 383 and 3:73 rear gears 295-50's in the back it used to snap engine mount bolts until I tied it down.

the motor mount is an early Hurst which bolts to the front of the block.

Sorry,

Thank you Tom,

I'll be expecting your message

Ok . This is what I did. I set the front and rear of the manifold on 4X4s, used a straight edge on the carb mounting surface and measured the distance to the 4X4 front and rear. Manifold #3844461. 4 5/8" front and 3 11/16" rear.

If this is not what you want let me know.
Tom

Close enough

Tom, thank you for your trouble.

These are the exact measurements I needed, from the flat pad to the bottom edge, however one last question. Is it possible that the measurements you gave could be reversed. Normally all rears are higher then the front measurements. If you look at it sideways, you will notice a slight slant towards the front. Just a though.

Yup. You are right. I gave the measurments backwards. Must have had a senior moment.....

BTW which Holley system are you using, I have a Commander 950 controller in my 76.

The stealth ram wasn't availabe when I built mine (1999-2000) I used the 950 control unit for TPI sometimes I think I have the first unit sold when talking to tech support which by the way has been excellent. :L

FWIW the stealth ram won't fit under a stock C4 hood If I had it to do over I would go with the stealth ram and a L88 hood, I may even do it yet as I am building a new short block.

here is a link to some pics :

I can't say if it will fit under a stock C2 hood, I do know it is taller then a TPI.
there is a guy that does a conversion (cut/weld) to make them fiit C4s you will have to do a search in the C4 section. I would not cut it but would go with a BB hood.

Good luck
