Ok i woke up the other day cranked up the vette and let it warm up a little,, as i was walking away the motor started to stumble than die.When i restarted it, it ran like crap and check engine light was on,i drove to work check engine light was still on so when i got home i checked to see what code i was getting.Code 33 which is MAP SENSOR so i went to chevy picked 1 up got out my trusty chilton book AND DAM I CANT FIND THE FREKIN THING .picture in chilton book stinks ,can any one tell me where it is hiding in a 1986 coupe thanks

MAP was used on the '84 MY only. The '85 Corvettes all used a Mass Air Flow (MAF) with a 1227870 computer. The '86-89 Corvettes used a 1227165 computer with Mass Air Flow. All '90-91 Corvettes had speed density and used a Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor and not MAF.
Code 33 for 1985 and on indicates a problem with the MAF sensor.

Throttle body plenumn
It should be on the under side of the TB plenumn. You can just see it from the passenger side near the rear of the plenumn. Right in the area where the fuel pressure regulator is, but above it screwed into the plenumn. I just looked at a spare plenumn I recently got and I may have just described the IAT sensor. If thats not it it maybe on the pointy end, near the distributor, screwed in from the drivers side at an upward angle.
Now if you are as confused as I have made myself .... Sorry.
I would think it would have to be somewhere on the plenumn though. With all the wires and hoses under that thing it can be confusing, not to mention a real PITA to get to. It could be screwed into the top of the intake manifold too I guess. Some one wil chime in with the correct answer.

Yes Ken is right I have a MAP you have a MAF ... Thats the thingy in the middle of the intake accordion. Hope its not bad those things can be expensive.
