Hoping for a little info. The MAF when hooked up to a scanner reads 0.0. Doesn't move at all even with a little throttle.
The question I guess, is that how it would read if it needs to be replaced or cleaned or does it mean something else?
Also, if replacement is needed, OEM or one of the more high performance jobs?

Thanks in advance.

year would be helpfull. Check connector, power and ground to it. Chevrolet used MAF relay(s) on the V8s

Knew I forgot something. Sorry about that.

Not throwing a code just shows up on the scanner as 0.0 and won't move even under power.

Thanks,

jim

Unplug MAF PCM should default to using TPS and MAP sensor values, will car go? What is fuel pressure? Do O2 sensors voltages vary? Air leak between MAF and manifold will cause low MAF readings. OBDII should show code or something.....Of course pcm and engine grounds are a constant source of trouble. It could be a PCM fault.

If the MAF Sensor data in the data stream is zero then and the car will not drive, then the MAF is, clearly, defective.

You can do as suggested above and disconnect the MAF. That will cause the system to use a mass/air calculation and the car should drive.

What's interesting is your MAF reports zero, the car can't be driven and the check engine light is, apparently not on.

Does the service engine light come on during bulb check?

Replace the MAF with an OE replacement part. CAC sponsor Rockauto.com is a good choice. The last replacement MAF I purchased cam from Rockauto.

That's the strange thing. No engine light and the car runs fine. Only found the 0.0 reading while checking something else. Just seems strange the car would start and run like normal if the MAF was bad. Also I would have thought there would be some type of movement when giving it a rev even if it was bad.

so it's not the car won't go it's the MAF reading doesn't change whith the throttle?

That is correct. Check eng light not on, engine running good (maybe a very slight ruff idle). Last month it did throw a code for o2 sensors on bank 2, one low n one high plus running lean on bank 2 but tried a injector cleaner and after about 200 miles light went out, very ruff idle left and the real bad exhaust smell ended. Been good since then.
Like I said sort of just found this 0.0 reading for MAF by accident. Just figured if it is a bad MAF reading 0 the car wouldn't start but I really don't know.

Not sure what to tell you about reading....it could be a communication error between scanner and car. If the MAF is bad a code should be set and SES light on. The car can : not start, hesistate, stumble on accel, stall, and /or surge. PCM is looking for voltage (Airflow) variations from sensor if it doesn't see it SES light should come on and a code sets. It's good car runs ok. You might try a different brand of scanner to see it if reads MAF.

Thanks for the suggestions and thoughts. Will try a different scanner and see if anything changes.
Thanks again,

Jim
