mass air flor sencer

Here is something I need help with. I took my 86 in to the garage for a stumble and it would stall everytime I took my foot of the pedal. They informed me it was the mass air flow sencer. That was $529.95. Upon bringing it home it still had the problem. I looked under the hood and started checking plugins. I found the throttle Position Sencer was not plug in all the way. Upon a test drive it ran just fine. Now could the TSP have caused this problem? and not the MAS? Seams the garage would of checked that first.

When the MAF sensor goes south, it will usually set off a code.

Ah, the dreaded SES light! It's actually not that dreaded because when it comes on, unlike most cars, you can pull codes yourself instead of paying a shop $70+ to plug it in.

I have two MAF sensors, one with the screens and the other without the screens. I used the one without the screens for a few months and decided to switch back because acceleration was kind of "lumpy."

insanegt1,

You'd better go get your money back because they are obviously not a very honest shop.

tps obviously was the cause of your problem . My advice, unplug the TPS again and take the car back to the shop that "fixed" it and demand your $ back. Tell them they can test drive it to see the problem still exists with the new MAF but you don't want them working on the car anymore.
Since the TPS was unplugged part of the way you may also want to check and make sure you're getting the right voltage. You can do this with a voltmeter and jumper wires. Key on ignition off, you should see around .5v closed throttle and over 4v @ WOT.
Places like Mid America, Ecklers, etc.. also sell test leads w/ connectors on them to make life a little easier if you don't want to make your own.
