I am looking to update the rims on my 87 Vette and wanted to know what the other corvette owners are using with and without spacers. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

stock offset is 38mm for the 9.5" rim, 84-87, anything much different from that will need a spacer plate to make the wheel sit correctly

my AFS rims are made to fit, so I didnt need a spacer

If you do have to buy a spacer, get the ones from VetteBrakes

Vader what about the 88-90 rims? i have them now on my 87 and am thinking later down the road 17x11's in the rear.

thanks,
Mic

its either the ZR1 or Grand Sport rear rims 17x11 that are direct fits for 84-87 so no spacer req., i think its the ZR1s.

Hey, I was faced with the same prob. After speaking with Bobby (parts mgr.) at Guldstrand he suggested that if I plan on using the car for its intended purpose( handling and performance ), I should stay away from spacers. I called Just Corvettes (800-886-8388) and ordered a set of ZR-1 copies. 17x9.5 front, 17x11 rear. They look awesome. I run 315/35/17's out back, 275/40/17's in front. Oh ya, offsets they told me are 38mm front, 36mm rear. Hope this helps

I see that the AFSWheels will fit 93 2002 Firebirds and Camaros as well as 84-87 Vettes. These are the wheel specs for the PONTIAC/SLP Firebird FIREHAWK
17" Five Spoke Wheels

Specs:

17" diameter x 9" width

7" backspacing / 2" offset

bolt pattern 5 lug on 4.75" bolt circle

Are their any members in this forum that have this setup on their vette?

I want to get rid of my 16" stock wheels and go to the 17X9.5 on my 1988 but I read somewhere that the front wheels will possibly rub against the A frame if I make a hard turn. Does anyone have any experience with this happening?

I can turn my 17x9.5s to full lock with 275s and get no suspension rubbing. An 11" rim definitely will rub.
I doubt, but dont know for sure, if 285s would rub.

17" wheels were an option on the 88 so if you use the 17x9.5" wheel with the 56mm offset and the 275/40 tires, you should have no problems.

Thanks. Vader, would I be ok with 17x11's on the rear since they don't turn?

I run polised afs ZR1 rims....17 x 9.5 with the correct 38mm offset (i think that is the offset for the correct size) and no problems. I ran a set of chrome plated '90 rims for like 4 years with spacers and had no problems at all. I got the spacers from ecklers.
