I saw a car yesterday that may of been a 63 FI car. The radiator support seemed to be correct. The badges were gone (although) you could tell they were in the correct spot. On the driver side Wheel well holes were drilled that suggested it was for the air cleaner. The motor had a RF code on the block. What else should I of looked for to tell if it was a FI at one point. Sorry I can't get pics. The FI unit was long gone. What did i miss. Thanks Mark.

Here's what little I know.

The FI distributor is different. It is in two pieces with a friction ring that keeps both halves together. There is a drive on the front that looks like the drive for the tachometer but it is to drive the FI pump assembly. Some guys just capped the front and left it there. There will also be plumbing that goes into the distributor base to lubricate the gears with engine oil. The distributor sat on top of a manifold spacer, about 1/4" thick. Some, or all, of this stuff may still be there. Also, the orignal distributor cap was shorter to compensate.

You should check the inside of the fenders to see if the FI emblem holes were covered over. The tach should have the higher redline. FI radiator supports were used with normally aspirated engines, apparantly the factory used whatever stock was on hand.

Other guys are experts but I think the FI option came with J56 brakes, not sure.

That about covers it, plus the high redline tach mentioned above (although the 340hp had the same tach). Nothing else was mandatory with F.I., and when F.I. cars lost their injection units, the unique distributor usually went with them, as the F.I. wouldn't work without them.
