Maybe a stupid question

My brother and I have a 77 and an 81. I was wondering if the 77's came with positive traction. When it takes off, the right wheel is the only one that spins. I can't really tell if the 81 has it or not (I think it does). If the 77 doesn't have it, is posi traction difficult to add, or does anyone recommend it?

Not a dumb question. There is no listing for a posi traction as an option in the Tech Center/Model Center for a 77, so I would say yes they all had posi traction. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

The problem with one one wheel spinning may mean the clutches in the posi unit are bad.

I can't imagine a Corvette not having positive traction...but you never know. I saw in a catalog for $90 there are new positive traction clutches. Maybe that is the problem.

The positraction rear end became standard equipment in 1970, and all Corvette's have come equipped with limited slip ever since.

As to whether there is a specific issue with your car, it depends - the clutches don't prevent one wheel from spinning, they engage and supply power to the non-slipping wheel. Under some condtions (like sand on one side of the road), one wheel will continue to spin while power is being applied to the other side. As long as the car continues to accelerate, there may not be any issues.
