memory not remembering

The memory feature on my 2000 Vert doesn't always work when I insert the ignition key. The telescoping steering wheel and the seat position functions are the two systems that work intermittingly. The other functions such as radio, heat/air, etc work fine. Any suggestions or I seem to remember reading a post that this is "just the nature of the beast." It could be that I am programming it incorrectly; however, I do it per directions in the manual. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks, Ron

For the 2000 and newer models, you have to have locked the car and then unlocked it with the key fob for the memory functions to kick in when you put the key in the ignition. If you have not locked and unlocked, you can always simply press the memory button for the selection you wish to "remember".

Fred

In addition to the recommendation above, you also MUST close the door prior to inserting the key. This is done just in case the driver is larger than the memory thinks he/she is. That way they can manually adjust the seat without being slammed against the steering wheel.

I believe this is different in the 2000 and later models. If [my] memory serves, I think that inserting the key first, then closing the door will trigger the memory function to kick in when the door latches shut. Next time I get a chance to check, I'll find out for sure and post back.

Actually, you don't have to have lock the car before unlocking it with the fob for the memory function to activate. Just press the unlock button on the fob before you open the door and the system is activated whether the car is locked or unlocked. If you forget to do this, then you need to press the appropriate memory button on the door.

As already stated, the door has to be shut and the key in the ignition before the memory function adjusts the seats, etc. If you start the car first, then close the door, the memory feature should adjust everything once the door is closed.

I have noticed one press of the unlock botton unlocks the driver's door, another press moves the seat back to maximum, and a third press unlocks the passenger side. Aren't they all the same?

Yeah, that's what I meant to say... :D You definitely just have to press the Unlock button on the fob for memory to engage. Don't have to lock first.

I double-checked this this morning and it was correct. Shutting the door after key ignition triggers memory to engage, assuming the other conditions are met...

I don't think the seat moving back is part of the key fob routine. It should be: one press for driver's door, two for passenger. The seat moving back should occur upon egress, assuming that this option is set in the DIC.

memory is now remembering

Thanks for all the input. The memory now works as it is designed. You must press the UNLOCK button on the key fob as mentioned in the post/s. The door doesn't have to be locked, however. Everything else. ie; seat, radio, etc, works as expected. Thanks to all who responded.
