Mid-America Dual Exhaust Conversion

Well guys & gals I just finished the installation of the chambered exhaust I received on Monday. It was more of a job than expected (my whole stock exhaust was welded together), but after all was said and done - IT SOUNDS AWESOME!!! :_rock :dance Quieter than I thought, which makes me even more elated that I got the right exhaust for my Vette. A nice low rumble at idle, and a head turner at WOT.

I also noticed that some of engine vibration I was experiancing has diminished considerably. And I noticed that the y-pipe at the rear was "squished"; I would think there was some restriction there.

No h-pipe installed as of yet; that's a later project. But overall, I'm one happy guy! :D :)

Hello my fellow vettesters.I ordered my exhaust from MA yesterday.I went with the stainless steel dual pipes and ultra flo stainless mufflers adirect bolt on system. Thanks to all of you.Your info really helped me in my decision. Now I have to decideif Iwill put it on myself or find someone or co; to do it.I may be able to get the use of a lift and fellow club members to help.Would it be to difficult to do with out alift?I cant wait for the day its done and I fire my babyup! This winter is just doing me in snow :cold ;gray go away already! You know what Im saying!

lg78,

Good choice all around. I think you will be very happy :).

If you have 4 good jack stands, a strong jack (hydralic) and are comfortable being on your back, save yourself some $$ and do it yourself. Installation is fairly straight forward.

You may though, encounter a few situations like I did... All my pipes were welded so I had to cut them out (a few good metal cutting blades & a saw-zaw). The need for extra hangers that the MA kit does not supply (and those are cheap). And I also took the time to remove old hanger hardware and the cat plate.
NOTE: the airtools I received for Christmas - a HUGE help!

I took two nights after work and had my old exhaust out and the new in (and that is with trips to the auto store). I say if I had to do again, it would take me half the time. Overall I'm very pleased with the ease of installation. Saved me $$ I can now spend on $2 gallon gas. :crazy
Good luck!

What a great weekend!Just as Maineshark said I ordered my MA true duals and ultra flos and in 4 days it was here. I installed it myself with my next door neighbor. Was not difficult.I laid everything out andsprayed and loosened the original on Friday.Saturdaywe put the new system on took about5hrs.Sundaywas cruise day.I loved it! Sounds and feels real sweet!MAINESHARK I have a question? On your secondary pipes do youhavebent in sections on both pipes in about the same place?I assume its for fitting purposes although I dont think I needed it.I called MA but the guy I talked to didnt know for sure but thoughtit was done directly for fit.Other than that everyone that has seen and heard it love it including my wife! Thanks again for all of you who gave me such great advice especially Dave;Shawn and Maineshark.Get back to me if you can

Glad it worked out for you. They have a nice sound, don't they?

I'm not sure which bend you're talking about... I really didn't pay too much attention to the exact bends they used. Everything lined up, so I figure they must be bent right :)

lg78vette - Don't you just love it when a plan comes together. You will never regret your new system. I am glad you are pleased with it (I knew you would be!!!)

lg78,

You've gotta love when the wife likes the work done on you vette! I think i may have put in close to 6 hours. But the job i did looks better than most shops (IMO). Not that you look under your car a whole lot, but it's knowing you've done a quality job.

I'm glad you did this yourself. Not having to pay the extra $$, is money you can spend of other fun stuff!
What's next on your list???
