I looked in the New mid america catalogue and saw a advertisment in the exhaust section for muffler eliminators. They look like the monza style mufflers. Has anyone tried these. They say that you should leave the CAT in place. I just wondered how loud would these be? I would love a nice deep tone. I am not looking for the open header sound though. Thanks Dewayne

They sound good, but since there is no muffler the sound ins't as smooth... I have my mufflers eliminated and love the sound... I would suggest you just go to a local shop to get a quote though... Both times I have done it it has been less than $100, including labor

A few club members have removed the mufflers on their L98 cars and the sound isn't that bad. It's fairly quiet when cruising,, but at WOT they do sound nice.

I agree with Vettelt193, just go to a muffler shop and have them cut the muflers and bend and install a replacement pipe. Good shops should have a variety of tips available.

I have heard that the muffler eliminator from MAD or Eckler's doesn't always fit correctly.

I had the muffler eliminators installed on my '88 and loved it!!! The sound was awesome and, though there was some resonance, it still sounded good....just what we all think Corvettes should sound like!!

I ordered them from Mid America and think there was no problem with the fit. I had my mechanic install them which cost me about $50, added to the $129 for the eliminators. Not bad!

I had the privilege of driving behind a Red Vette' with those eliminators and the sound was awesome to say the least. It was really a low growl that could scare the neighborhood kids!

Corvette Central has the best eliminators. They are reasonable and the best quality (one piece instead of two pieces that clamp together.

Hi,

This is my first posting! Just registered tonight...

I received some mufflers for Father's Day last year (from my excellent wife and kids) that I really like. Not too loud, but a nice purr. Of course, what is too loud for some, might not be loud enough for someone else. Personal preference.

The link is below and I attached a picture of the mufflers...got them from Eckler's for $149. Installed them myself in a couple hours due to some rusting on one of my original mufflers/clamps. These mufflers really look sharp on the car. The clamp was easily cut off with a dremel tool cut-off wheel - did not even need to lift the car onto jacks, just slid under it! I could have done it in one hour if I just cut off the muffler in the first place, instead of wrestling with it. If your "Y" pipe is rusted, you might have more trouble.

Good Luck!

id like to here what the vette sounds like with the mufflers eliminated! for the longest i was considering the flowmaster
exhaust ! but i decided to go with something different than most,
and with splindid results! i bought the Hooker Aerochamber mufffler exhaust kit! its a welded muffler kinda looks like a flow master, rich dark crackle like powder black finish with with dual oulets with twin 3 inch chrome tips. the have a low nice rumble at idle, but turn it loose on acceleration , very little resonance and damn well worth the money , if i buy a buick grandnational this summer as planned there will be a pair of aerochambers waiting

I was also considering going with the eliminators but I've read elsewhere that this leads to loss of power, not only at the low end, but through the entire range (the only thing I imagine it could be was loss of back pressure). I'd hate to trade sound for power....any truth to this?

on your lt1 vette, if you keep the center resonator, you will not lose power at all... the only way you could is if you really freed things up... I don't think it would be possible to do so if you left the cats on your car, unless you used pipe bigger than 3 inches in diameter.

They work great

I pulled my mufflers and installed the monza type tips your talking about. Meineke installed them for me here for 60 bucks and they look and sound awesome. Not to loud when I just cruising around but when I romp on it ohhhh does it sound nice.
