miniram, lt4 hot cam kit, ported 113 heads or 190 AFR heads, headers. A good combo?
Is 370hp at the crank possibel ?
Where should that combo peak?

ITs for my 6spd vette..

Good combo, Maybe..

I am not sure on the LT4 hot cam.. I would get one will more duration for the miniram.. I still say the ZZ9 or ZZ409 for the cam

Also, who will port the L98 heads? what will be done with them? the 190's may be better.

The miniram is a virtual "copy" of the LT1 manifold so seeing how the LT4 hot cam works well with the LT1/LT4 setup it cant hurt.

Plus the LT4 hotcam has more duration than the TPIS ZZ9 cam!

This is a good combo (in my opinion). With afr 190 heads, tuning and all the good stuff i'de say 430hp at the flywheel is not a problem.

must i go with stronger springs or will the springs deliverd with the hot cam kit do? Why I ask is that the lt4 springs are lighter then my l98 stock vavles.

I would imagine the springs in the hot cam kit would be fine...assuming all things equal and such. After all, its a complete kit!!!

Point

TNT, I think Myron Cotrell would say that the LT1 is a "virtual" copy of his mini-ram, hahahahah. Who came out with it first? Anybody know? I'll call TPIS tomorrow and ask them.

Bob,

thats a good question....im going to gamble and say the LT1 cam out first. But in real life im not a gambler!

Let us know what you find out as im very curious to know.

Mini Ram was 1st on the scene.

I had my 1st back in 90

anyone know how TPIS came up with this design? It seems too much of a coincodence (sp???) that GM came out with their version ~2 years later.

Was there anything back in the 60's? (aside from the old fulies) that resembled the LT1 manifold?

Back then the 1st low profile intakes were welded intakes and were similar in runner lenghts to the mini ram, even the Sledgehammer was similar in runner lenght. So I would have to say that even then if you needed higher rpm capabilities short runner design was a given.

your right...I forgot about the sledgehammer.

devilfish, sorry about hijacking your thread!

thanks again for the info 8388

Which was first?

Hay all. Look at the e-mail I got from Mr. Myron Cotrell:

THE MINI-RAM WAS SHOWN FOR THE FIRST TIME AT THE 1990 SEMA SHOW

IN 1989 ON THE WAY BACK FROM THE PEBBLE BEACH CAR SHOW I JUST HAPPENED TO BE ON THE SAME PLANE WITH ZORA DUNTOV. I WAS
SEATED NEXT TO HIM. I SHOWED HIM A SKETCH OF THE MINI-RAM TO GET HIS OPINION. HE LIKED THE IDEA. IT HAS A LOT IN COMMON WITH THE 57 STYLE INJECTOR.

MYRON C. PRES. TPIS

I guess that settles that one. I thought GM copied it from him.

Great info everyone.

Now if we can figure out which came first, the chicken or the egg?

:L

yeah glad to celar that up :eyerole

Now ..

If I install a miniram, lt4 hot cam, 1,5rr. And leave my heads for now ( going for afr later ). How much gain will I se.
How much will the heads and exhuast hold me back?
Can afford everything..
:gap

IF you have the 113 castings already on your car and the engine is installed and you want to do this project in stages you might consider doing the mini ram and buy the total Hot Cam Kit but just install the 1.6 self-aligned roller rockers for now. This means you can leave the heads on the car and don't have the pain of a cam install. Maybe just put on a nice cat back unit for now and a cut lid/K&N filter and the other free things. The LT4 Hot cam springs are heavier than the stock springs and can handle a gross lift to .525 where the stock L98 springs max out in the .490/.500 gross lift range. When you are finally able to do the whole thing and pull the heads to be worked the only possible concern would be too large and heavy of a valve for the LT4 Hot Cam spring to handle. They have worked great with stock 1.94/1.50 valve sizes for me, but larger valves equal heavier weight most of the time and I'm going with more spring on my new worked 113 castings. The AFR 190 is definitly better flowing but it all depends on your end goal and pocket book. I got my new 113s for $750 with the complete port/bowl/large stainless valves/better springs/etc. done as the machinist started with bare castings and built the heads up. Well worked 113s should support 410-425 flywheel HP on a 350/360 with the right setup.

Well I alreday taken out the stock cam. So the lt4 hot cam is going in anyway.
Headers, and heads is going to be installed later.
But will the car be strogner then stock with the lt4 hotcam kit, and miniram only?

Regards

what gears you runnin ? The Mini Ram likes at least 3:40's

8388, Since he has a 91 I think they only offered the 3.45 for the 6spd.

As for installing cam and miniram, I would say yes it will be stronger then Stock..

I had the miniram and ZZ9 with stock heads.. It was stronger, but not too much

with the CNC L98 heads it is much better..

Hey 89ZZ4,

I see you are going with ported 113 castings, who is doing them?
just curious
