I have used my microfibre towels to do quick detailing often. I sometimes note that when I rub on YVette that sometimes it appears that small filaments stick to her hood or various places...what does that mean, have others had this happen...I'm just wondering if it is something on the microfibre towel (I do wash them, use no soap, and then dry in dryer)...or is it something on the finish...I just recently washed and waxed YVette...so it shouldn't be grime, although I did take her out for a spin one night but only a quick spin...I'm puzzled..;shrug

Not all microfiber is created equal. Your situation begs the question of where you purchased the towels that you are using. Mid-grade towels, such as those found at places like Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, AutoZone, etc. are typically not of the best quality. They are suitable for use on such surfaces as leather amd rims, but not on the finish.

The better the quality of the towel, the less likely that you will experience the linting that you are seeing. A great source for high quality towels is: www.PakShak.com These towels are plush and do not lint. If you happen to join the detailing site Autopia.org, you can purchase the towels from PakShak.com at a great discount. The 16x16 towels typically sell for about $4.50 each, but being a registered member of Autopia.org you can purchase them for $2.25 each. That is a great savings on a great towel. The owner's name is Ranney, and he is a good guy to deal with.

I am confident that you will not be disappointed with towels from PakShak.com

Thanks, I did get them at Walmart, and I was thinking today also that when washing them I washed them along with my cotton towels...so could have been that lint (as small as it might be) also got on the towels...so in the future I will wash my microfibre alone....

Very good point. Microfiber (regardless of the grade) should only be washed with microfiber. Do not mix microfiber towels with cotton/terry towels as the microfiber will pull the terry fibers off and cling to them. You'll have a very hard time getting that microfiber to let go of those fibers. :( This will also cause the linting that you are seeing.

For washing purposes, I will typically set the machine for a second rinse cycle and I do not use a liquid fabric softener as this will cling to the towels and then transfer to your paint. Also, dryer sheets are not recommended for the same reason.

Caring for microfiber takes a little getting used to, but you are on your way.

I took RubyDropTop's advice about PakShak microfiber towels and ordered 10 of the 16x16 in blue. Total cost (including shipping!) was $30...$3.00 per towel!! They're great...plush, very high quality!! You can't go wrong with them!
