ok, in the bay in front of the driver's tire there are two connectors that have nothing to plug into. one is a black oval plug with two pins in it and the other is a flat plug with four wires. the flat one definately was plugged into something but i do not know what as i bought this car used.

thanks for the reply, it seems that maybe the two pronged plug goes to the under hood lights(which is missing the wire to the lights) and maybe the four wire plug is the cruise control? there are a couple of mounting holes on the frame where something was mounted.

An 84 is different than an 87.
On my 86 and on 87's the cruise control is mounted over the battery. In the area you're talking about is a horn, the connector for the under hood light, and the evaporative recovery system canister. A solenoid is mounted next to the canister and it has a plug like you describe.

could you tell me what this solenoid is for? thanks for all the help.

is it possible that the four wire plug is for an auxilliary fan? it is flat, similiar to the one used for the fan relay

The solenoid activates the canister purge cycle I believe. However, I don't have my books at hand so I cannot verify that statement at the moment. ;)

I'll try to look it up tomorrow if I can remember. :CAC

thanks again, i believe the solenoid is right next to the canister, this flat plug goes to something that was mounted on the frame rail-there are two small holes that show something was mounted there. is there anything i can do to help to i.d. this part?

I got tied up wih mine today Danny, and totally forgot about your question. Sorry. :(

_ken :w

it's ok, the car still drives ok but i'm just trying to put everything back on to original so i know what is what, thanks again.
